Pros: Old fashioned charm and great location.
Cons: Breakfast - really bad. The scrambled eggs tasted powdered, the grits were totally bland, the bagels were frozen, coffee ran out...
Location: Easy walk to bus and light rail as well as to museums. Lots of interesting shops, boutiques, cafes within just a couple of blocks.
The hotel is old but nice. The desk staff was pleasant and helpful, the elevators worked well and the room was very clean. There was nothing spectacular or memorable about the room but it was comfortable and very adequate. The only drawback was the complimentary breakfast. It was truly horrible and not worth eating.

Cons: The staff could be friendlier. The breakfast could definitely be improved.
It was convenient to most attractions and major roads. The neighborhood was a little sketchy.

Nice hotel, great price and location

Pros: It was close to the baseball field.
Location: It was right in downtown so you could walk to restaurants, bars, the baseball field and the football stadium! It was great.
We got to the hotel before our check in time and they let us go ahead and get our room. The room was perfect for the price that we paid. The location was even better. We will be staying here again.

Close to town but not recommended

Posted Sep 22, 2014
The hotel was close to downtown but you had to pay 10.00 parking and the room was filthy. Around the bed was dirt and there was straws and dirty napkins pushed under the bed. Hotel staff wasn't overly helpful, the bed was really uncomfortable. The perk was supposed to be a buffet breakfast that was eggs, hash browns and bread you had to toast yourself. No meat and the juice machine was broken. Overall not so good experience

One of the worst

Posted Sep 22, 2014
Pros: Not much.
Cons: Gut it and renovate.
First let me say that Baltimore is one of the most disgusting cities in the US. Except for the inner harbor, the rest of the city is a dump. Staying at this hotel made me feel like I was at a halfway house. Brick wall outside my window, thermostat hanging off the wall, dim lights, nail clippings on the floor, dirty carpet, and countless other things. Coming home from dinner, I felt like a scene out of Escape from New York - bums begging, people loitering, people actually howling on the streets. I actually checked out one day early (forfeiting my last night) moving to another hotel outside the city. The staff was friendly enough - although I can tell they were not experienced hotel staff - probably low paying temps.

Pleasant staff. Free suitable breakfast. Beds comfortable. Bedding old. Old hotel in need of upgrades. Room dirty. Ancient air conditioning. Air unit was old, very dirty and beat up.

Reasonable rates. Pretty, older elegant building

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: Affordable clean good breakfast parking garage accross st is $4 a day
Cons: Be better staffed for breakfast. Staff that was there were trying very hard and were very pleasant
Location: We walked to the harbor and great farmers market on Sunday morning. Toured the broom seltzer building and art studios. Few miles to Baltimore museum.
Pleasant front desk. Breakfast was good but ran out of coffee both days. Think the hotel was totally booked so may not have had enough staff

Mount Vernon Hotel

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: Above
Cons: Physically move the hotel from current neighborhood.
Location: Lexington Market, Mount Vernon Square, MD Historical Society. Nipper on the roof.
The hotel was easily accessed from the Purple Line. Facilities were old but well-maintained, decor was eclectic but fun to look at. Room was clean and looked like there was a recent renovation. Plumbing worked very well. Good water pressure in the shower and the knobs were not falling off - unlike so many places today. The desk folks were friendly and helpful. They knew the area well and provided tips to make our walking safer and more direct. The Lexington Market is a few blocks away, awesome seafood. Would not head there after dark. The Inner Harbor is within walking distance, but the Purple Line will get you there quicker---for free Overall, great hotel. We will be staying there on our next trip to Baltimore.
