The Victoria hotel is a truly individual hotel in style. Looks like a converted old house or coaching inn. Rooms are clean and warm (needed to be with the cold north winds) but slightly quirky in their layout, you have to climb stairs and go along winding corridors (very easy to lose your bearings) My room was on the top floor which has been recently modernized, very spacious with a four poster bed and comfy easy chairs with table, as well as the usual desk, chest and wardrobe. Spacious en-suite too. Meals were good but a little rushed as the waitresses went home after serving dinner. Breakfast good, lots of choice in cereals (including very nice hot porridge) but cooked breakfast was limited, which spoiled an otherwise enjoyable meal. The public bar was nice but had football on constantly which made conversations stinted and the Jackie Milburn Bar for residents was not used and lacked atmosphere (entertainment was laid on by the hotel one evening in the Jackie Milburn Bar and that brought it to life, shame it wasn't used more often). That said it was low season as most residents come in the summer for the walks and castles which close at the end of October, so it may be more lively earlier in the year. All in all it was a pleasant stay and the staff could not of been more helpful or friendly ( except the barman who never smiled in 4 days). Would return to Bamburgh again and consider using The Victoria as it is central & welcoming, an ideal base for exploring the area .
