Disappointing Stay

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: Nil.
Cons: Renovate the hotel rooms.
a) Upon arrival, the room was 27C. We turned the heat off and went out. Two hours later, the heat was still on. The plumber said the floor unit had failed and he had to turn it off manually via the shut off valve. Even with no heat and a window open, the room was still very hot at night. Note: There was snow on the ground outside. b) There was a used paper cup between the nightstand and bed; c) A dog barked for hours, in the adjacent room during the afternoon. The owners had left a, do not disturb tag on the door; and d) Only when we needed a lot of allergy medicine did the front desk advise us that all ground floor rooms are available and rented to dog owners. As per the expedia website, quote "This is a pet-friendly room type." While a regular hotel traveler may believe this means the hotel charges the dog owners an extra fee and then thoroughly cleans the room, this actually meant bring allergy medicine, a lot of it. If we had known, we would have reserved a room on another floor. Unfortunately, this detailed information was not available online.

Tired, old property.

Posted Apr 12, 2015
Pros: The scenery around it and that it's near the ski hill.
Cons: Major renovations to the rooms, the pool area and the whole hotel in general. .
Location: There's not much to do in the area except visit the actual lake and, of course the ski hill. Banff is close and there's lots to see and do there.
This hotel is in desperate need of a makeover. It's old, tired and starting to fall apart. The rooms are dated but comfortable, the pool area is nice but needs a lot of work - hot tub was dirty, floor and wall tiles are falling off everywhere, large chunks of wall tiles are coming away from the wall around the one hot tub, grout and caulking are dirty and just generally sloppy. It's obvious they've tried to keep it together over the years with "quick fixes" but they just look bad now. Location notwithstanding, I've stayed in Alberta in better hotels for less money with much nicer facilities but without the spectacular view.

Comfortable hotel with a lovely view

We stayed at a condo with loft, it was very spacious. Even if it was cloudy and snowy, we still had a great time at the hotel.

Not fancy but good value. Comfortable beds, clean, pleasant staff, good location. Great pizza in restaurant.

Disappointing. Beds were super uncomfortable and the sheets barely fit.

Have stayed here a number of times when skiing at Louise and it works great being near the hill. Didn't have the kids with us this time and discovered the lounge in the basement - very nice.

Old but clean

The place is dated but clean. There was no morning room service even though there is three places to eat or if you have issues with gluten bring your own food.

Overall the hotel was nice but our room had an issue with the thermostat. They were quick to fix it but then we couldn't turn the heat off. Ended up sweating all night long in our room. Also the noise from the rooms above woke us up several times in the night. It was fine for one night but I wouldn't want a long term stay.

Small rooms, no mini fridge, no elevator. In a word: Disappointing, in another: overpriced.
