“Would go again... for the right price”
There are 2 concerns with this hotel...1st. the bathrooms are extremely outdated and need to be renovated. 2nd. the free parking they offer is the 2hr public parking behind the hotel and if it's full well tough cookies for you.
“Weak Wifi access to some rooms”
Great location. Clean room. Coin washer/dryer was helpful. We stayed at 272 (;far end of the left wing, windows facing parking lot) where wifi signal was very weak. Other than that, I strongly recommend this place.
“Good location”
Was noisy because of ice maker machine out side of room.
“Not so impressed”
The location is good. The hotel might be a little too old.
“very good hotel”
Everthing about the hotel was great except luggage carts woul NOT go to my room due to a stairway and a low ceiling.
“Was a good value”
We were able to book with an Expedia Special Rate. Room 524 (on the 3rd floor) was a great value. It was somewhat small but clean. The classic decor was interesting. The queen bedding was basic, but, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small with a low ceiling making the shower space very dark with the curtain closed. Although this room was in the addition and updated somewhat recently, it had it's blemishes. The bay-like window looked over Banff Ave. with a view of Sulpher Mt. in the background. The Internet connection was somewhat slow; adequate to websearch and e-mail documents, which I did. The checkin and checkout staff were fine. I was able to find parking even after returning in the evening. The entire town of Banff experienced a blackout for 3-4 hours. We got back into town after 8pm and most everything was closed. Hard to find dinner in a powerless town and the businesses were hurt this night. However, Mount Royal somehow had backup power. There was electricity throughout the hotel when the rest of the town was black. The on-premise restaurant was one of the few open and serving as well as the adjacent pub downstairs at basement level. There is something to be said for that.
“Mount Royal”
Room had no windows to open, it was too hot inside. Air condition too noisy.
“Great stay in Banff, Alberta”
Great stay in a nice, charming lodge in the middle of downtown Banff at a reasonable rate.
“Banff's best location”
Overall the hotel met all our requirements and expectations. Conveniently located, with an exceptional view of the snow capped mountains every morning. Only problem was occasional lack of daily replacement of towels, coffee, bath supplies, but was rectified swiftly. Staff was very pleasant and informative.
“Would return to Mount Royal”
We specifically chose the Mount Royal Hotel because it is in the heart of Banff townsite, one block from the bridge. We were there 2 nights, over Canada Day, and we wanted to park once and walk everywhere. Shopping and restaurants are literally right next door, and there is also a pub downstairs. Guest parking is limited, but we found a spot. Our room was on the fourth floor, and necessitated 2 elevators if using the main entrances. But there is a very convenient keyed entrance on Banff Ave. to the elevator that takes you right to the 4th floor. It appears they are working on constructing an outdoor patio on the 4th floor as well. The hotel has lots of character; we enjoyed the photos and framed news articles that are hung in the corridor relating to the hotel fire. The staff was quite friendly. Expedia got us a good rate, and we'd stay here again.
