Pros: The staff and accommodation
Cons: Nothing in particular
Location: Markets, shops, BTS train system & river boat tours (hop on hop off)
To get an idea of my first experience with the hotel I need to say this: I caught the train from the airport and was given the wrong stop information, but a kind gentleman called the hotel and spoke to the staff, describing me to them, he then put me on the train with the correct stop and exit details where a hotel staff member was waiting to take my bag. The hotel is within walking distance to the BTS train system and the river boat tours, it's an unassuming looking place from the outside, but has very nice rooms. I got my check in date wrong by a day, but they upgraded me to a honey moon suite at no additional cost. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating, which included my previous mentioned collection to a staff advising me and arranging a taxi at a fixed price to the airport. Glad he did as the traffic was incredible taking an hour and a half to get there - I was great full because the train system would have been very busy as well to navigate at that time.

disappointed in bangkokPosted Aug 3, 2013
Pros: large room for four people
Cons: the promised pool evaporated!!
Location: lees than ordinary, seedy, ghetto like
we booked in December for a stay the following July, a family of two adults and two children. Specifically we wanted a pool to come back to in the afternoons after looking around Bangkok. The pool and gym were out of action due to renovation and we were not notified this would be the case. We asked the hotel staff repeatedly if they could organise for us to swim in another hotel pool, the reply to which was you can swim in your bath! I know it is a cultural issue as the staff do not enjoy the pool like we do but it did take the gloss off our trip to bangkok. Also the location of this hotel is somewhat suspect now as the surrounding area is completely dilapidated and run down, it looks seedy and ghetto like. The hotel is clean, reasonable breakfasts , close the metro and river boat stations and run by nice people. We went on two tours with Mr Prakhon who runs the tour desk and they were great. Its the only hotel i booked in four weeks where i would not stay again.

'Friendly, helpful reception staff ' is the best IPosted Jul 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
Arrived in the evening, about 7.15 & was greeted by good natured, helpful member of staff. But after check-in etc, tried to get dinner at 8.30 but the restaurant was closed, so went for a walk to find food, & found the hotel was on very busy road, leading to another busy road, with nowhere nearby to eat. (Unusual for Bangkok.) Comfortable large bed, nice staff, but I would not go to this hotel again, & the low rate wasn't relevant, as I stayed in really good places in Thailand for the same money.

Not a passing gradePosted Feb 26, 2013
I was there 2 nights and most of 3 days with no Wi-Fi as advertised. I asked and was told that they could not have it running until the day after I was leaving. I would suggest that this hotel find a new server for the internet service. Internet is very important to me when I am travelling and I don't want to have to go and sit in a internet cafe with outdated equipment just to check my email or book my next flight and room. While I did reveive a very nice room, rather suite, while I was staying there, the wallpaper is falling off the walls which indicated that there isn't a lot of attention to details taking place and maintenance. I would not stay here again.

Close to BTS and Central PierPosted Feb 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
Astera is on a quit busy street, Sky Train and freeway, so it has it's conveniences and noises. There is plenty of places to eat close by. Not sure about the night life, cause after trudging around all day in the hear and humidity, we really didn't have the energy. We didn't use the gym facilities but needed that daily dip in the pool after our daily excursions. The first day it felt really cold to get in, but as the days went on we really appreciated it! Booking on line gets you a better deal - so for that money, it's on okay place. Breakfast doesn't vary that much from day to day but it fills a gap. The people that work there are nice and try hard with their English.

BTS station is near the hotel. Kind services and the room is clean and large than I expected, but the hotel need to get insect care.
good location, breakfast, valuePosted Jan 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
If you want to be close to the city pulse & don't have a huge budget, this hotel may fit the bill. Located just a block from the sky-train (you dont want to be stuck in Bangkok traffic)and a few blocks from tge river (if u want to take a water taxi past the grand palace) its a great location.

AdequatePosted Jan 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
Check in is a long and tedious process. Took staff half an hour to check us in with no one else waiting. Rooms are grimy but adequate. Worst was that pool and restaurant were closed all day for a staff party who blared live karoke until 11 pm outside in the courtyard. The noise not only kept everyone awake but drowned out the tv as well. We had to walk a long way to find a restaurant open (about half hour search) across very busy roads. Close to ferry and skytrain but for the price you can get much better in bangkok in better location. The plus was that the staff were pleasant.
