Posted Sep 15, 2014

Posted Jul 26, 2014
Cons:

Posted May 2, 2014

Nice hotel, terrible staff!

Posted Feb 4, 2014 on Hotels
Nice facility, but bad staff! Not-so-friendly staff. When asked a question, they frown and fidget, like they want to end the conversation quickly(even though there is no one behind me). When we asked a cashier to exchange money for more coins, she placed the coins on the counter in almost "pounding" fashion. When I asked a receptionist (with suit and tie) how I can locate nearest Skyrail station, he just pointed toward hotel's main entrance and said "50 Bacht, 5 minute walk", without telling me how to get there. When I did find the Skyrail station on my own, the friendly rail employee explained everything about the Skylink rail to the airport. We tried hotel's breakfast buffet, and it wasn't good! Scrambled eggs were practically drowning in yellow liquid, bread toasting machine was burning up everyone's bread, and fried rice was just plain fried rice with hardly no meat or vegetable bits. Worst of all, one of hotel's "suit and tie" employee came over to eat, placed some fruit salad into his bowl, them drained salad's liquid back into the main fruit salad container. With all the hotel's we stayed in Vietnam and Cambodia (Hanoi, Sapa, Hoi-An, Saigon, Siem Reap) offering free wi-fi, I booked this hotel without checking closely. No free-wifi here, unless you are willing to pay high 1hr, 2 hr, or 24hr rates. We traveled Europe last year, and we must say this hotel staff's rudeness rivals that of people of Paris. The only reason we give this hotel a 1 star is because one of their room-maid actually smiled and tried to say hello to us despite the language barrier. We really appreciated her smile!

Location is great

Posted Aug 27, 2013 on Hotels
I have stayed at the Bangkok Palace at least 6 times in the last 10 years. I have always considered it a 3 star hotel but I absolutely love the community in which it is located - close to shopping and BTS if you are in reasonable walking shape, but far enough away so you feel as if you are experiencing a Thai neighborhood. But it really has gone downhill in the 5 years since I was last there. The beds were rock hard with no mattress pad to help out. The breakfast buffet was not nearly as good as it once was - but was still adequate. There appears to only be one non-smoking floor. Mostly, the room did not provide a welcome reprieve from the craziness of a day touring or shopping on the streets of Bangkok. We had booked two nights expecting to extend our stay but discovered a couple of other hotels that were much higher quality within a few blocks of this for roughly the same price.
