“Will Never Go Back”
The Kairaba is advertised as a 5-star luxury hotel. There is nothing luxury about it and certainly no 5star! I had first stayed there in 2001--then a comparable European 3star gem. Fast forward to July 2011 when I went back! What a difference 10 years make! The staff were rude and outright bored. The whole place had a feel of a bygone era. The grounds and the rooms have deteriorated and badly need renovations. The TV sets are 17in from the 1990s and the programme had nothing much to offer. Apart from soap no other toiletries were provided in the bathroom. The towels have passed their "throw by date" and looked so brown it is difficult to believe they were once white! Accessing internet in the room comes with a whooping price tag of USD40 every 24hours. At first, I had thought it was a mistake! It wasn't! There was however free wi fi in the reception area, the business centre and breakfast hall. The worst part was the food. I had arrived at lunch time. After check in, I went to the pool restaurant for lunch. I had ordered a chicken yassa with rice (the local traditional dish). The chicken tasted like it had been microwaved countless times. The rice was equally bad. Couple of mouthfuls and I gave up. Dinner that evening was equally bad. After that I opted to eat at Coco Beach for the reminder of my stay. Even with the added taxi cost of USD15 getting there it was worth it. I had stayed four nights on business. Will never go back.
“Good 3 stars hotel”
This is clearly not a five stars hotel so expectations should not be too high! The rooms are ok but nothing luxurious and they are getting quite old. Garden and pool area are nice and well maintained. I didn't try the beach as I was on a business trip. Food is decent and quite cheap.
