Enjoyable stay in Bar Harbor and Acadia

Posted Jul 2, 2015
The Castlemaine Inn was a delightful experience. We stayed here as a couple with no kids. It felt like staying in someone's home with the staff treating us very well. Dan (Innkeeper) was always full of great suggestions about what to do in Bar Harbor and Acadia. We stayed in the eyebrow suite, which was spacious and romantic. The suite had a regular bathroom with skylight, deck, den, and bedroom with king size bed. The room and inn were overall very clean. Breakfast is included and served every morning from 7:30 to 10:30 in a dining room on the first floor. There are also two living rooms and a front porch where you can sit. Breakfast was delicious and just the right portion. There were two options each day including egg dishes, blueberry pancakes, etc. Coffee and OJ were also served. The hotel also had parking onsite. The inn was located about 4 blocks from downtown Bar Harbor, and it was easy to walk everywhere in town. You could literally park your car for the whole week and walk to places in Bar Harbor and take the Island Explorer on the village green to Acadia. Overall, I was very pleased with the stay here based on price, room quality, friendly staff, great breakfast, and location. Would definitely return. Would likely not recommend for handicap (slightly on hill, not accessible).

Nice inn with a great staff and location

Posted Jun 23, 2015
Pros: Location, very clean rooms, home feel, friendly staff, walking distance to the sites in the center of Bar Harbor
Cons: Parking was painful, breakfast was nice but could be a little larger
Location: Near Acadia, beaches, hikes, ranger led activities, lighthouses, restaurants, shops, movie and improv theaters, boat tours, town greens, events
Spent 4 days here to experience Acadia, Bar Harbor, and as much about the area as I could fit in. The inn is very comfortable, clean, and you feel like you’re starting with family. All staff was friendly, helpful, and always ready to help answer a question or make a suggestion. I took in several ranger led events including a boat tour to Baker Island (4.5hr tour including a tour of Baker Island and its lighthouse, and a great boat ride in Frenchman Harbor). Acadia NP site is how you find all these events. You can reserve and buy tickets in advance from the site as well. Another I’d suggest is the night sky ranger event. It was quite popular and on Sand Beach. Dress warm and bring blankets (it gets cold and you’ll want to lie back to view the night sky). Drive the loop road to see all the parks sites, carriage roads, top of Cadillac Mt, Thunder Hole, and get to hikes. Bar Harbor whole a little expensive offers lot of food and entertainment opportunity. Walk around and pick what interests you. There’s an info store front on Main and College corner. In also have food and activities info, as well as a library of DVDs if TV doesn’t interest you. You should fit in at least one boat ride. Many say in Frenchman Bay and the boats are pretty calm to ride. The Whale Watch and fishing boats go out farther to sea, so expect some turbulence. You won’t run out of things to do, and will likely want to return to the area.

Inn needs updates and repairs

Posted Jun 18, 2015
The location of the inn is good and close to Main and Cottage streets. The staff was polite. I would rate the breakfast as good. While the owners keep the rooms clean, the facility needs some repairs and updates. The decor looks like it was last updated in the Eighties, and that includes the bed linens. The room smelled a bit musty mainly due to the wall A.C. unit. The unit seemed old and was very loud. The mattress was on the hard side and the pillows were small and uncomfortable.. Also, the back porch was very old, stripped of paint, and caused splinters on bare feet. The deck was shared with another room. The only shower that I took was was with cold water because of a furnace problem. The owner was apologetic. I don't know if ths is a common problem or just bad timing for me.

Pros: DeeDee and Dan were so helpful!
Cons: Limited parking on site, but the innkeepers helped us find a good place around the corner.
Had a delightful time at Castlemaine and Bar Harbor. June is right before the season is completely packed, but the weather was grand.

Nice B&B.

Posted May 18, 2015
Close to everything. We walked to restaurants, shops, and "pubs". Great breakfast. We were were there in mid-May so not "in season" yet. The front desk person was very friendly and had a handy list of restaurants that were open that early in the season. If you want a true quaint B&B experience, ask for one of the rooms in the older part of the Inn. We didn't stay in one but looked in one. The bathrooms, of course, are all modern and up to date.
