“Beautful grounds, comfy rooms, great stay!”
We booked this hotel after searching for a property close to downtown Bar Harbor that wouldn't break the bank, and we were very, very happy with our experience-- with the price and also the completely pleasant environment there. Wonderview is actually a complex of hotel lodging, with a (more expensive) upper house (many rooms with views of the harbor--terrific) and several smaller buildings (where we stayed for a steal (we paid more than this for a property 20 mins further out four years ago!). The dining room and the main check-in lobby both have terrific views that one can enjoy there regardless of where your actual room is located, so even the cheaper rooms feel special. And the fact that there are buses every 15 minutes to take you downtown (3 min ride) or even to multiple spots in Acadia Nat'l Park was absolutely terrific. The whole hotel is a bit older, but it has charm and class (!), and the grounds are huge and beautifully landscaped. B/c the buildings are older, you'll find that there aren't 500 electrical outlets in each room though-- just 3 or 4. We didn't have a problem with this and think most families would not either. Who needs to be plugged in while on vacation in such a beautiful spot. Also, there's wireless internet you can access even while sitting on the grounds in a lawn chair. Really terrific
“Great value, lovely location”
This hotel is situated in a lovely elevated location overlooking the Mount Desert Island coast. Bar Harbor is an easy 15 minute walk but a free courtesy bus serves the hotel every 20 minutes, day and evening. Clean, spacious, well furnished rooms. No room beverages but coffee/tea continuously available in the lobby. Ignore pre-2011 reviews, the hotel is under recent new management, has been refurbished and the service provided is friendly and efficient. Excellent value for money for anyone visiting the delightful resort of Bar Harbor.
“Wonder View Inn was Wonderful”
What a wonderful surprise. We booked the room not wanting to be stuck down town and also based on price. What we got was an outstanding room with an unbelievable view of the harbor and islands. The location was great and the local free bus comes to the lobby for pick up to take you to downtown and connections all over the island. We could walk to the local bike shops in town and the entrance to the park is out the back road. The staff was very nice and our room was spotless. We would recommend this place to all who come to Harbor Island for a day or the summer.
“Very nice!”
Excellent views. Very welcoming atmosphere. Would recommend this hotel to everyone! Will return. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Service was great - even a cart to transport us to the restaurant on premises
“Aptly named!”
At first we were not happy that the Wonderview was more of a motel than a hotel. The room was a bit out of date. That night, however, we slept in very comfortable beds and in the morning we sat out on our terrace and viewed the most spectacular setting. We saw beautiful rolling hills, a gorgeous bay and a glorius sunrise. My sister and I would definitely go back there. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
“Service”
We were to be placed in a standard room, however, they did upgrade us to a room with a water view since they had space available. The room was great and we were very pleased with the price.
“Lives up to its name!”
Beautiful room and gorgeous view. Watched two cruise ships come in the morning as the sun rose. Great accomodations for the price.
“Beautiful Bar Harbor View”
This place was really well-named - absolutely gorgeous view! Rooms were a little dated but well-maintained and clean. I would definitely consider going there again.
“Not bad for the price & location”
This is a decent place to stay if you don't want to spend a lot on a room. The hotel staff is very friendly and professional. The Wonderview is a part of a complex that has a more upscale hotel called The Bluenose, but we opted to go the low budget route since we weren't looking for an expensive weekend, so it served our needs. Our room was a little dated, but it served its purpose. We had a lovely view of the harbor from our room and it's a very short walk into Bar Harbor. There's a nice restaurant on the premises that's very convenient for breakfast as well.
“Lovely spot”
The setting here was beautiful, including the promised views. The Island shuttle came right to the door and delivered visitors to Acadia and around Bar Harbor for free. The room was just a tad crowded, but otherwise comfortable. The restaurant food was great. The night we ate there, the service was not the best. In fairness, it may just have been an off night. We had a pleasant two night stay and would be glad to go back.
