Very Shabby HotelPosted Feb 15, 2012
Cons: The food and restaurant service. Not good value for money at £260 a night all inclusive
Location: On the beach at Holetown
The Hotel has seen better days, it needs a complete makeover. The reception staff were very helpful. The beach grill is very dirty with grumpy staff. The main restaurant breakfast and dinner choice of food is very limited and runs out quickly and is not replaced when gone. Dinner is from 7-9pm, We went in at 8pm and no tables were laid, when I stated this to the waitress she just said that she knew that. We had to go into the kitchen for our own cutlery as no one would help. Breakfast was as bad, coffee was brought to the table but no milk. We asked for milk three times but it never came. The main building looked as if it had recently been painted but not finished, there were bare electric cables coming from the ceiling. There were empty flower pots around the hotel and our room with weeds not flowers in them. We had a beachfron club room which seemed to have been recently painted, very carelessly as there was paint all over the tiled floor. The room was very good otherwise looking directly to the ocean. The hotel is in an excellent position right on the beach at holetown, all of the above problems would seem to stem from bad management.

Clean, comfortable and friendly.Posted Feb 7, 2012 on Hotels.com
Our stay at Discovery Bay was perfectly pleasant. The room was lovely, with a view overlooking the Caribbean. Everything was clean and tidy. It might not be a super luxurious resort, but it had all the necessities. We especially appreciated the mini-fridge as we did not partake in the all-inclusive meal program. Our only mishap in Barbados was not related to our hotel stay at all, our baggage did not make the connection in Miami and so we were without our stuff for 24hours. Hard to enjoy the beach when we are dressed for Montréal winter! I would recommend always taking an emergency carry-on bag with the essentials as it seems to be a common occurrence. Especially with flights which connect through Miami.

discovery bay hotel barbadosPosted Jan 31, 2012 on Hotels.com
awful place, only spend 2 days there, the bed headboard, the paint was falling off, the bathroom was not clean, we arrived around 9 pm on friday 20th jan, the dinner was over. so we asked for some sandwiches, they came, the bread must have been sitting out on its own it was so curled up, also the path to the pool was supposed to be paved, it had more loose stones on it than slabs, I definitly would not recommend this hotel, from what I can gather the hotel ran out of meals sometimes.

Very good, quirky hotel, had some minor issues with no coffee machine in room etc and took 3 days to get a tv remote, but overall we loved it, the friendliness and hospitality of most of the staff made up for any small issues. They were flexible with check out time for us which we really appreciated. Paying a bit more for an ocean view was really worth it.

A great experiencePosted Jan 13, 2012
Everything was wonderful, the food, the staff, the location etc. The see was quit calm, not a lot of waves. Which makes a great location to just relax or have fun with your family!

Lots of potential but look elswhere first.Posted Jan 1, 2012
Pros: Our room was very good. the beach was first class. Great neighborhood.
Cons: Restaurant, bar, service, maintenance.
Location: Good locale with restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
We had a great room, large, just renovated, on the water. Very pleased. Beach is wonderful. But the problem is the general hotel upkeep, restaurant&bar and most of the staff. We'd go down to the lobby to get the wi-fi and there was a constant train of guests coming to complain about their rooms and the clerks would just ignore or even laugh at them. A manager was never present to address anything. My guess is they spend nothing on the staff and the property. We had 3 light bulbs out or strobing in our room and they were never changed. Recommend if you're staying here, insist on the beach front rooms and eat out. Its expensive but there are some nice restaurants within quick walking distance.

Basic, but great locationPosted Jan 18, 2011
I found the hotel to be clean and very functional. The pool area was nice but the beach availability was limited. The staff was very proficient but not very outgoing. The food was good but not anything I got excited over. The thing that makes this hotel is it's location. You can walk into Holetown and all the restaurants and shops. With the new mall openning across the street, it will be the best location on the west coast.

Wonderful valuePosted Nov 24, 2010
Discovery Bay has a slightly funky charm, great character and service. It is right on the beach, within walking distance of several great restaurants and a shopping center. Our room had an ocean view, more than worth the few extra dollars. The pool is fine, the poolside bar busy day and night serving thirsty Brits. Be warned that the only internet access is in the lobby (wireless) but it was fine.
