“Not a bad choice”
I reserved a garden view room so was pleasantly surprised when i received an ocean view room. The room is rated as a 2.5 star and it is what it is. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. My room was very clean when I arrived back to the hotel later in the day. I did not use the hotel's bar/restaurant because I have my favourite hangouts in the area. The nearby beaches were excellent and I divided my time between the one just next to the hotel and Dover Beach which is a 5minute walk away. I don't go to Barbados to spend time in my room...so minor irritants like the paint is a little chipped is no big deal...the key thing is to have a clean washroom and clean linens and pleasant/helpful staff (of course the customer's attitude plays a huge part in the staff's demeanour as well)...this hotel met my expectations and more. I would definitely return.
“Not a bad deal for the money”
I booked a single garden view room at this hotel through Expedia for a reasonable rate, considerably less than most of the other hotels on Expedia charged. It did not have the luxurious grounds that other hotels nearby had; in fact, it was right on the street, although it was a back street. The room was spacious and clean, the hotel had a nice pool, and most importantly, there was a promenade overlooking the ocean where one could while away the afternoon watching and listening to the waves crashing over the rocks. There was easy access to the beach which, like all beaches in Barbados, is public and open to anyone. Thus, you can and will be approached by locals hawking various items, but a polite no usually suffices in getting rid of them. I had only two complaints about the hotel. First, the service in the restaurant is atrocious in that it is excruciatingly slow. If you are by yourself, better bring something to read while you are waiting. An even better idea is to eat somewhere else. Second, my reservation was for a "Garden View" room, but there was no garden in sight of my room. My room was right on the street, and I had to draw the blinds for any type of privacy. However, I spent very little time in my room or in the hotel, so I didn't mind.
“Great Place to stay with a nice location”
I have stayed at this hotel on a couple other occasions. The staff is very helpful. It has a great location if you are looking for restaurants or entertainment. The beach is clean. The beds could use an update as far as comfort is concerned. Other than that it is a great place for the price. I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
“Very friendly hotel”
The only problem I found with this hotel is that there was no restaurant or bar open after 7pm in the evening. There was a supermarket nearby but if you wanted to sit and have a meal in or drink at the bar this was not possible.
“very basic but friendly place to stay”
would have been better if we had got see vue
“For the budget traveller”
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were able to answer all my questions. The restaurant is not that great. That said, I only had breakfast so I can't vouch for service at the other meal times. The location is ideal. The airport is nearby and it is not absolutely necessary to rent a car for the entire duration of one's stay. The bus service is very efficient. The airport is about 15 - 20 minutes away. The beach is right outside but most beaches are within walking distance any way. Barbados if generally safe and this location was no exception. Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are a budget traveller and not looking for the frills of the larger 5 star hotels. Good value for money.

“10 chill out days in Barbados”
This was our third holiday to Barbados so we knew what to expect in terms of attractions etc and really wanted a chill out holiday. Dover Beach fitted the bill perfectly; not too far to walk to the nightlife and places to eat but quiet although still with some life and relatively easy access to buses. The pool area was perfect with some shade most of the day and a pleasing sea breeze. There is also direct access to the fantastic beach so it's easy to go for a daily consitutional!! We had upgraded to a larger room but when we arrived we had been given a smaller room on the first floor as they were decorating downsatairs and here was a smell of paint plus for safety they prefer 2 women to be on the first floor. We raised our concerns with reception and without too much fuss were given our original room on the ground floor. We were pleased that we had a microwave and fridge but no plates or knives and forks so again this was requested and provided (along with a toaster) by reception. The hotel foyer and public areas were always clean and the cleaning staff very friendly although the room cleaning schedule did appear to be random in it's timing so don't plan on the beds being made if you want a siesta after lunch! Overall it was perfect for what we wanted
“nice no-frills hotel”
This is a nice no-frills hotel very well located. Nioe view of the sea. Close by to great restaurants (Harlequin). Try to dive with "The Dive Shop" at Carlile bay.
“A FINE CHOICE”
on the whole the hotel was a good choice, plenty of live football on the various tv channels on the room tv, thought the food was poor, only down side to the hotel, but struggled to get a decent meal anywhere, just did not take to the food at all,,bit dissappointed with barbados as a whole, expected a lot more compared to the med resorts. If you like barbados then the dover beach hotel is a fine choice.
