“Be careful what quality room you reserve.”
This hotel had many great features and amenities. Right on the beach, it had a great fresh water pool and beach bar along with loungers and chairs for the beach. Lots of coral in the water (Ouch!) but that is the same most everywhere on Barbados. The restaurant was OK, we found the prices were high for the mediocre quality of the food and service. We decided to go to other restaurants for dinner each night of our stay and enjoyed the top quality of many of them. The biggest negative of this hotel was our "superior" room which was in the older part of the facility and was equivalent to a 1950s hotel in the USA. We had problems with the plumbing, lighting, creaky floors, etc. Old and worn out and no view. The newer rooms were more expensive but were in much better shape and had outside verandas and a great view overlooking the pool or ocean.
“Would look around more next time.”
The hotel was comfortable and the location is wonderful. The place could use a little TLC though. Don't be confused by the breakfast, only cold cereal, pastries, toast and coffee were in the "included" the rest of the buffet was extra and not told to us the night we checked in. We were charged a full buffet price because we had some fruit and scrambled eggs. Not a warm welcome.
“I liked the balcony best...”
We visited Barbados for a weekend. We stayed for 3 nights and for the most part it was ok. Upon check-in the front office staff was friendly. The bell-hop was not that warm but ok. Our room was great until we went to the bathroom. The bathrooms are cheaply done and the bath tubs have little rust marks. I had read other reviews and saw that and specifically requested a bathroom with no rust marks but did not get one. To add insult to injury, the toilet was leaking and so I stepped into a puddle of water when I tried to use the toilet. I called the front office but no one came to fix the issue until noon the next day. We would not allow that to spoil our trip though so we threw a towel on the floor and got on with it. The room was comfortable and nice. We loved the balcony overlooking the pool and spent a lot of time there. The only thing I would add there is a ceiling fan as it gets a bit hot. The restaurant was ok, nothing to write home about but to be fair we only had breakfast there. The beach bar needs an upgrade but the pool is great. I hated the beach..too many rocks. I gave up on it after a while.... It sounds like we had an awful time but we did not. I would stay at the Savannnah again....I would just recommend that the bathrooms be fixed. I hate cheesy bathrooms. Loved Barbados (minus the cuisine)!
“Disappointed”
More rustic than it appears in pictures & description. Exterior maintained but rooms were very disappointing, everything looked warn, bathroom was poorly maintained, shower leaked, towels were old and stained, walls were grubby, furniture on patio was old and cushions were ripped. Restaurant was dingy, food passable but expensive. Only good comment is about the staff who were polite and in most cases very helpful.
“not impressed”
nice country shame about the hotel especially the lasidisical unprofessional and rude attitude of some of the staff in the restaurant. not child/baby friendly. despite our appearance at breakfast every morning, a high chair was never offered and when we asked we were told that they were all being used by a wedding party or that the chair was in the function room and there was no one around to fetch it despite numerous staff milling around doing nothing. on one occasion at dinner in the restaurant a member of staff, seemingly frustrated by a confusion over our meal shoved the food under my husband's nose exclaiming'excuse me sir, this is your meal' then prompltly walked away. no greeting what so ever when arriving or leaving the restaurant. on another occassion husban was told to vacate his table at the restaurant to make room for non hotel guest ( without any explanation). no baby pool. private beach is unswimmimable as too rocky so had to go to neighbouring beaches. please do not take young childrn or babies ( although hotel does not say no babies or children...it should to save disappointment) staff seem to have problem attitudes with them, hotel caters it seems more for the business client. food at hotel restaurant v v expensive and yet does not live up to the prices. TGI Fridays down the road served better food. on uoside rooms cleaned daily three friendly staff in total.even if we went back to Barbados without baby we will not stay here.
“Not impressed”
For what we were paying, we expected something much nicer....the only saving grace was that we had a room over looking the ocean...or what we could see of it through the trees. The service was not good: the bar staff was not friendly and I had to repeatedly ask for room and pool towels. The front desk people were the only friendly ones in the place. Barbados was nice, but I would not go back to this hotel.
“Hotel is a maze, staff is unfriendly!”
I recently stayed in this hotel for a night while in Barbados for business. Let's just say the hospitality was anything but hospitable.... I could not believe how negative the dining staff was - everyone seemed to be in a bad mood. This fact combined with the never ending corridors, and persistent "easy listening" music - a man can only take so much Kenny G / Whitney Houston - caused me to be look elsewhere for accommodations. You want great service / excellent food - stay at the Island Inn!
