Classy hotel in Gracia, accessible and unique

Posted Jul 24, 2014
Short distance from many Gaudi sights with a lovely rooftop bar/terrace (NOTE: closed Sun-Mon). Room was spacious and well equipped with complimentary mini bar and refilled daily. Staff muy amable y servicial! Small pool/sauna/gym in basement. Window overlooked courtyard restaurant. Breakfast seemed nice but overpriced. It's possible to walk from here to barrio gotic with gusto! Would definitely recommend/return if within budget.

Great hotel for Barcelona Break

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Staff, facilities, location
Location: Most of Barcelona is within walking distance or a short metro ride.
Alma is a 5* haven in the brilliant city of Barcelona. The staff were brilliant and the facilities good. Room was spacious, clean and well equipped. The roof top bar was fantastic. Highly recommend this.

Great place and great location!

Posted Jul 5, 2014
Pros: Great service, spa, size of room, down comforters, bed
Location: Both Gaudi houses were nearby and lots of good shopping. It was an upscale area.
We happen to start our vacation on July 1, which was a day for a city wide taxi strike. We took the bus with our luggage there and were really hot. They had cold water there and were easy to check in. We liked the large room and the modern style. Also liked the spa downstairs and the swimming pool. Liked the service. Our leaving flight was cancelled due to bad weather on the East Coast of the US. They let us call to United on their phone at reception for 45 minutes.

Close to perfect

Posted Jul 3, 2014
With a very low profile on line and not entirely informative site I was a little concerned as to what I might be getting. I need not have worried. The front of house staff were excellent, the room spacious, clean, quiet and (at night) dark. A real plus was the courtyard restaurant - excellent food (if slightly limited menu) at a very reasonable price. Also a great location - very close to key Gaudi buildings. I would stay again.

Lovely hotel and well situated

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Great hotel and well situated in a good area but within walking distance of Las Ramblas and the Old Quarter. Pool very handy and the beds very comfortable. The staff were excellent, the airline had misplaced one of our bags and as soon we told the reception they were right onto it calling the airline and chasing them till they had recovered it. When leaving they also gave us some recommendations for tapas bars in Pamplona. Very helpful and pleasant as well. The Courtyard is also a nice quiet space for a relaxed tea or coffee.

A hidden gem

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: A full-length mirror would be nice.
Location: The hotel is close to La Pedrera and Casa Battlo (spelling?). The nearest Metro about 2 blocks. Many good tapas bars within walking distance.
Our 3-night stay at the Alma was just perfect for us. Our room was quiet, the bed comfortable and air-conditioning I could work! We had two meals in the outdoor part of the restaurant in peace and tranquillity. Every member of staff we met could not be faulted, were very friendly and helpful and enthusiastic. We plan to return.

Perfectly located hotel tucked away from madness

Posted Jun 8, 2014
Pros: Great checkin desk staff and beautiful courtyard garden and bar area - easy charm and relaxed ( not remotely stuffy)
Cons: Only slight query was why the breakfast menu was €25 pp
Location: Just off Passeig de Gracia (on block next to La Pedrera) perfectly central to everything, La Sagrada Familia was on the same street;
Check in was calm and relaxed (assisted by offered glasses of cava) staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant throughout: rooms were light and airy and well appointed. Beds were extremely comfortable and had lovely light bedding. Bathrooms were perfectly functional and bright with Malin & Goetz toiletries which were excellent. The courtyard garden and bar was a beautifully relaxing oasis, bar staff were superbly professional and efficient - our regular waiter picked up on our routine and was great fun! Spa and pool were useful and were probably underused by clientele. Strange that the hotel charged €25 pp for breakfast which seemed oddly out of kilter with their otherwise fair pricing of everything else. Great experience - would be delighted to go back and to recommend to friends.

A well-designed Oasis

Posted May 27, 2014
Pros: Personal service, design, breakfast (at 20euro is a good deal considering the quality and it includes beverages)
Cons: Spa- they have sani-booties that are like shower caps for feet... maybe just provide slippers? That's really the ONLY thing I can think of.
Location: Gaudi's Casa Mila is around the corner and Battlo House is a block away- so you have no excuse to not to go early, before the crowds!
My whole experience at ALMA was beyond my expectations in every way. The folks who work up front don't distinguish between bellhop/concierge/reservationist/etc. Any of them make a point to hold the door and welcome you, make a dinner recommendation and/or reservation, take extra time to explain the different ways to get to somewhere, or even put your call through to room service as their "dial 9 for everything" phone system routs all calls through the reception area. This is the definition of a great boutique hotel. Personal service, design that's form and also function, good food and drink, and a chic and tranquil atmosphere. On the same trip but prior to ALMA in Barcelona, I stayed at some of the nicest five star hotels in Sevilla, San Sebastian, Madrid and Cannes, and ALMA was hands-down the best experience. I will definitely stay here again.
