The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful

Pros: Very kind and helpful staff. Beds had comfortable mattresses. Very central location, close to everywhere.
Cons: The whole place needs to be redone, the walls were exceptionally dirty, tiles very old and broken.
Location: Boqueria - the best food market in the world. I enjoyed eating there every day, and quite reasonably prices.
I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and very helpful staff, who gave great advice and were pleasant to talk with. However the place is very old and run down and they will benefit to spend some money on it and do some renovation. It will pay off in the long term as the hostel is in a central location and will never be short of customers. Hygiene was also not great but was not bad. I was given a bed with a dirty pillow case, luckily I had my own bedding and covered the bed with my bedding otherwise I would have asked for it to be changed. Cleaners arrived every day mopping the floor and emptying bins but there was still rubbish left on the floor. The communal kitchen is very run down. They had the smallest kettle and the slowest boiling kettle in the world which is not suitable for individual use let alone for communal use. The staff had established very respectful atmosphere in the hostel, loud music was not allowed, and that set the tone for mutual respectful interaction amongst guests. I was in a mixed room and was impressed by the high level of discretion and consideration amongst all of us.

Well-situated and Inexpensive

This hostel is a good one if you're only looking for a place to sleep near the main points of the city. It is located some meters away from La Rambla and from a metro station which allows to visit a lot of the city. The hostel seemed clean, the reception is open 24h/24 (with a good quality of service) and a breakfast was served every morning (it wasn't anything special, but it was filling and included in the price). Big lockers were available to store our important objects for free, clean towels were available every day and free wi-fi was available. The only downpoints are : you have to pay to get bed sheets and, since it is really near La Rambla, is a bit noisy during the night.
