“Not a good choiced.”

Hotel corridors are dirty as if you are walking on a 1 star horel.Our room floors are comming off. Most hotel staffs doesn;t speak english at all. Elevator hotel is so small only 3-4 people are allowed and if you luggages you have to make 2 trips to pick up your stuff. The only good thing about this hotel is the location very closed to La Rambla & Catalunya.

Area recommendations

La Rambla, Catalunya, Segrada De Familia, Dali's residence, Barceloan Cathedral. Lots of historical events. "Watch out for Pick-Pockets"

“Good hotel but not worth the price”

Axel hotel was a good experience overall though I could not justify the price I had to pay. My room was small (European standard) but had a good view of the main intersection outside the front of the hotel. The people were courteous and spoke excellent English; however the staff was typically hard to reach and spent more time looking me up and down than helping. The restaurant/room service was up to par, but the breakfast buffet was less than adequate for 30 euro a day. Within the surrounding neighborhoods several restaurants offered much better cuisine from around the world and should be taken advantage of rather than the hotel itself. The Sky Bar and Ground Bar were lackluster at best and the drinks only slightly overpriced. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Axel Hotel despite the drawbacks and price tag. I would highly recommend this hotel to others who are interested in a Gay oriented hotel located in an ideal section of the Gayixample portion of Barcelona. Unforunately, my next trip to Barcelona will not be spent at this hotel as, after one trip, it has lost its novelty.

“weekend in Barcelona”

It was a great hotel and great staff. It was our first time we stayed at a gay hotel. The shower in the room was bit odd since you could see the person showering from the bedroom. The marketing throughout the hotel was a bit too much, but the staff was very helpful and the hotel was very close to the metro.

“Great hotel and Great location”

We spent a 6 nights at the Axel and were very pleased with our experience. The hotel is clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent. We would stay here again when we return to Barcelona.

Getting there

We used a taxi from the airport to the hotel and the cost was approximately 40 Euros. We also used a taxi from the hotel to the cruise port and the cost was 20 Euros.

“Great location”

The hotel is conveniently located but I did not like the shower layout. The bath and shower was located between the bedroom and the sinks. The configuration of the glass enclosure and the location of the handheld shower head made it almost impossible to take a shower and not flood the surrounding area. The rooftop pool and lounge area was very relaxing. I loved having two balconies (one enclosed) on which to look out on the street. The desk personnel were very accommodating and helpful in all respects.

“Comfortable choice for gay or straight traveler”

The place looks great, the upstairs rooftop bar/pool area is fantastic, and the overall vibe is good. I would estimate a third of the guests were straight and all were treated as welcome equals. The front desk has a wealth of information about the neighborhood and gay sights, but I would say they fall slightly short of the top boutique hotels when it comes to those little moments of flexibility that take an employee "off-script." That said, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. You can take the municipal airport shuttle bus to Universitat square and you're a short two-block walk from the Axel.

Area recommendations

Eixample is the place to stay. Walkable, quiet but convenient to everything.
