“Very impresser”
Great staff-Great location-can not wait to go back
“Comfortable choice for gay or straight traveler”
The place looks great, the upstairs rooftop bar/pool area is fantastic, and the overall vibe is good. I would estimate a third of the guests were straight and all were treated as welcome equals. The front desk has a wealth of information about the neighborhood and gay sights, but I would say they fall slightly short of the top boutique hotels when it comes to those little moments of flexibility that take an employee "off-script." That said, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. You can take the municipal airport shuttle bus to Universitat square and you're a short two-block walk from the Axel.
“Great experience at Axel!”
Great hotel if you're looking for a truly "urban" experience in the heart of the gay district in Barcelona. Extremely quiet, dark room (with curtains closed), despite noisy traffic outside. Very nice shower and ammenities. Resonable price and helpful staff.
“all you need and a bit more”
good rate, good location, fine quality, friendly and helping staff
“I LOVE BARCELONA!”
What a great trip! The Axel Hotel/Spa was incredible!! I will go back there in a heartbeat! Although it caters more to the gay community, it also is a great place for the hetero community. Everyone feels welcome! The spa is wonderful and the gym was great! We didn't eat in the hotel but I would assume that if the rest of it was perfect, this would be also. A very classy place to stay! The downside of the tirp was arrive from Barcelona in London City Airport and communiting to London Heathrow for our connecting flight. Not fun but not difficult. Just very time consuming.
“Great hotel...”
Very unique room setups, with excellent location. I also found the staff very nice and helpful for anything I asked, as well as speaking perfect English. Did the restaurant once for breakfast and it too was excellent. Overall for someone traveling from the USA, great hotel, at a fair price to value.
“Great Gay Getaway”
We cannot recommend this hotel enough! The location, rooms, rates and service was excellent. When we first arrived, me and my partner were warmly greeted by the polite (and VERY attractive) staff. We were a little concerned that we would feel uncomfortable with the majority gay staff and other guests but we found them all to be actually very friendly. We met some nice gentlemen from all over the world and even hung out with a few outside the hotel. Yes, it was a bit cruisy and it did seem like a nightclub at times, but hey what do you expect from a hotel aimed at gay men? It's location was in a prime spot in the gayborhood near numerous clubs, shops and the famous Las Ramblas. The rooftop pool was not very big (or deep) but at night on weekends it drew a good crowd of hotel guests and locals for drinks. There is a reasonable gym on the bottom floor and computers on the second floor for internet access. The rooms were a decent size and very clean. All in all, I would come here again if I'm ever in Barcelona. Awesome time at the Axel! :) Oh yeah, theres a HOT Czech recponist who's name escaped me....but he is gorgeous!!! Looks like my future husband David Beckham....
“Charming hotel with great staff”
My partner and I really loved the Hotel Axel. It's so cute and the location is excellent. The best thing about it is the staff. Everyone is completely friendly and helpful. We'll be back someday I hope.
“Warm and Friendly”
Our five-night stay at the Hotel Axel was terrific. The staff is warm, friendly and welcoming, eager to provide maps of the city and to help travelers plot their course, the breakfast is satisfying with fresh fruit and breakfast meats, cereals, eggs and juices, it is centrally-located and clean. Our room was comfortable--the bed was a wee bit hard--but overall, we enjoyed our experience at the Hotel Axel. It is wonderful being in a gay business, surrounded by "family."
“weekend in Barcelona”
It was a great hotel and great staff. It was our first time we stayed at a gay hotel. The shower in the room was bit odd since you could see the person showering from the bedroom. The marketing throughout the hotel was a bit too much, but the staff was very helpful and the hotel was very close to the metro.
