Great hotel in a great location.

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: What not to like.
Cons: The lighting system is perhaps a bit too sophisticated; couldn't figure out how to turn out all lights except one reading light.
Location: This is in the center of the old town and thus close to the Picasso Museum, the Boqueteria Market, Cathedral and lots of shopping.
There were 4 couples of us travelling together, and we all thought this was a terrific hotel. The rooms were quiet, very well appointed, and the bathrooms were spacious with lots of shelf space. The rooftop bar at the hotel is a real plus; the view is terrific and the bartenders make outstanding cocktails. The Sunday brunch is lovely. The lobby is very large and very well appointed. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Barcelona.

Fantastic Hotel

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: It's very individual
Cons: Restaurant could be slightly better, since the plates weren't warm, but that could be a Spanish thing.
Location: Brilliant location, just by Las Rambla, but there is no noise in the hotel.
Fantastic Hotel in a great location. Isabella's terrace bar is really nice to chill, and the Hotel smells lovely. Staff are really helpful and make things happen straight away. I'll definitely go back to this hotel and Barca

Superb hotel, centrally located

Posted Sep 12, 2014
Just stayed three nights at Hotel 1898 for my 40th birthday. Really impressed by this stunning hotel. Staff were very friendly. Loved the rooftop bar. Had an absolutely wonderful breakfast up there the first morning and drinks there one evening. Highly recommended - great city views. Also we made use of the spa facilities twice. Really wonderful way to relax after a days sightseeing. I cannot fault this hotel at all. I definitely hope to visit again one day.

Brilliant!!

Posted Sep 11, 2014
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel- would definitely recommend it and would definitely go again. Room was lovely, clean, comfortable and the air conditioning was effective and quiet. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The roof top pool was great to use for a quick dip at the end of the day and the bar had a great atmosphere. Finally, the hotel is in a brilliant location for exploring Barcelona. This is a great choice of hotel!

Excellent hotel on La Rambla

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: There was nothing to dislike. The room was excellent and the staff were very helpful.
Location: The hotel is at the top of La Rambla and close to the Pla├ža de Catalunya from where you can catch the tourist bus to all of the major attractions.
We booked this hotel for our 10th wedding anniversary and both thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. The hotel is directly on La Rambla but when you're inside it feels a million miles away. The room had it's own terrace with a day bed where we could relax after an exhausting day walking around the city eating tapas and drinking Rioja. The black out curtains allowed a good nights sleep and it was the first time we'd both slept until 10.00am since having children.

Fabulous roof terrace & central location

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Pros: Roof terrace, pool and roof bar were highlights but great location and good quality rooms and facilities.
Location: Ideal location on La Ramblas so in walking distance of the old town and many of the attractions as well as the beach.
Just spent 2 nights at the hotel with my teenage niece. Great choice of hotel. Location excellent, facilities great, staff friendly and roof terrace with the pool and bar were the highlights. The rooms are very nice if a little on the small side but everything you'd need and very clean and well maintained. The roof terrace is the real plus as it is unusual to find a tranquil terrace in the centre of a city where you can lie by the pool or enjoy the cocktails. Whilst it's on one of the busiest streets the terrace is quiet and you get great views and friendly service. Woukd really recommend it.

Great location

Posted Aug 29, 2014
Hotel 1898 is located on a busy part of town, surrounded by dozens of restaurants, cafes, open markets, and shopping. The hotel is very well cared for, and has a beautiful rooftop bar/restaurant and pool. Although the comfort of the room was great, our room faced a popular bar/restaurant open past 2am, and the sound kept us up later than we wanted.

Great location, lacking welcome and any 'atmospher

Posted Aug 28, 2014
Check-in took 20 minutes from time of arrival at Reception! Only one person in Reception, engrossed in prickly discussion with couple checking in ! No 'welcome', apologies for delay,, or any attempt to acknowledge we were standing there !!! Could things deteriorate? Oh yes!! Attempted check-in was 8 minutes ahead of 3pm check-in time. Promised access to room in 15 minutes.....but eventually shown to room after almost an hour.. Once we'd politely expressed our disappointment we were given a voucher for two drinks as an 'apology'. This is a very elegantly furnished hotel, with a rather gloomy gentleman's club decor and hushed atmosphere in the dimly lit Lobby.. Highlights? Well located, good roof-top bar and pool area. Tips for travellers? Hotel doesn't have ironing boards etc available to guests,
