“Skip if you can”
I was on my way solo to France for business and decided to fly into Barcelona to spend the weekend before having to report to work on Monday. Having to book a hotel a week in advance didn't leave many choices but the GBB Hotel Arenea looked nice enough so I booked it for the weekend (2 nights). Overall the experience was below what I would expect for a 3 star hotel. Front desk staff were nice enough. No big smiles or friendly conversations but they were helpful when I had a question. Each staff member I had interaction with throughout my stay spoke some degree of English which was nice since my Spanish was very rusty. Room was extremely small, barely big enough for me and my luggage. The bed was stiff with one very small pillow and the worst part was the paper thin walls. A couple and their small child had the next room over and it sounded like they were in my room. I could hear their conversations, only slightly muted, and could hear their child crying, screaming, laughing, all hours of the day\night. Location was not horrible, but not great either. I was OK with the 15-20 min walk to La Ramblas and\or the Gothic Quarter since I like walking but if that is an issue for you there are a lot of closer hotels that I'd try first. There are several restaurants\snack shops close by. Being in Barcelona for only two days I tried to spend as much time about the city as I could which limited my time in the hotel, but overall I would not go back by choice. Skip it if you can.
“Too far from everything”
If you don't mind walking 15 minutes each way you are fine. the area is more business like. the cleaning solution was too strong and the beds were too hard. Overall service was good, roomy enough for two. They even had a budet! The staff was helpful. Great for biz trip but if leisure i would suggest somewhere closer to the la Rambla
“Extremely Pleasant Barcelona Hotel”
My mother and I stayed at the Aranea for one night only to get on a cruise ship the next day. Our flight arrived at 9:30 am but check-in was not until 2:30 pm. The Aranea staff let us safely lock up our luggage in the "luggage room" while we went exploring (hotel very close to the Sagrada Familia but the neighborhood was dead after about 5:00 pm). There was a clean rest area upstairs with a computer, tv, vending machines, and restrooms too. The room we had was small but still comfortable with two twin beds, a very large bathroom, and a beautiful grand window that opened onto the quiet intersection below. The breakfast staff was completely rude when we tried to order coffee in broken Spanish and English, but this should not interfere with the wonderful and thoughtful service of the girls at the front desk. They went above and beyond to help us find mass times for the cathedral, find an important "blue folder" I had misplaced, and call a taxi to get to the port (TOTALLY unwalkable! Don't believe your map!). We highly recommend this hotel!
“Unsatisfied...”
We had a very early flight, but because of hotel policy had to walk around over 5 hours, no problem, but when we got back and were complitely tired and wanted only to take shower and to have rest a little, I found other people's hair on a bedspread, ok, I was too tired to call a cleaning lady, but when I found few more under a bedspread on a pillow...I just don't get it! We waited 5 hours for our room to be cleaned, I think it's not too difficult to make one's bed! Regarding room services there was none. And don't take breakfast here for 25 euro you'll get only few croissants, some fruits and 3 types of disgusting yoghurt. The Aranea is within 15 minutes from Sagrada Familia but really far from Rambla and all the rest points of interest
“1st time in Barcelona”
We booked the hotel based on the reviews, no dissapointments. Good location, decent and clean room. Recommend only to easy going travelers, dont expect any extras.
“Great Location, Great Space, Great Service”
Equally awesome was the friendliness and English skills of the staff, the quality and cleanliness of the facility and the location, location, location! For the price Expedia was able to offer, we felt we received the best deal in all of Europe, especially if you factor in the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. If in Barcelona, The Aranea is the place to be!
“Nice, Convenient Hotel”
Hotel was overall ok - nothing above average. Close to the sagrada familia.
