Comfortable hotel in the heart of the Barri Gòtic

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: The staff make a big effort to be helpful and make you feel welcome.
Cons: A few more hangers would have been useful.
Location: There are lots of things to see and do whatever direction you head out to.
This is a no-frills hotel offering a good base from which to explore the winding little alleys of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. It's minutes away from La Rambla, Liceu and Jaume metro stations, the Cathedral, and the Picasso Museum, with lots of places to eat and drink in the neighbourhood. I'd advise working out its exact location beforehand – it's not exactly hidden, but not on the beaten track either! My room was small but clean with a bathroom en suite complete with fresh towels. No toiletries except soap are provided. (I was glad I had read other travellers' advice about this. It's slightly inconvenient these days with airlines' restrictions on carrying liquids and when trying to travel with hand luggage only.) Despite being right next to the lift – in fact, my 'window' looked out on to the lift shaft! – my room was quiet bar the occasional comings and goings of other guests that you would get in any hotel. As a solo female traveller, I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe there, although the usual precautions apply. Air conditioning kept the temperature comfortable but the lack of natural light and fresh air meant that towels didn't dry and clothes worn during the day didn't get refreshed. Wifi signal was never a problem. All the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.

Excellent location and helpful staff!

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Pros: All the staff were nice but I have to single out Guillem--he can read maps backwards!
Cons: An in-room kettle for tea/coffee-making would be great.
Location: Close to the metro, Plaza Jaume, Picasso Museum, Chocolate Museum and a beautiful Cathedral. Also, lots of food places around.
Central location for a good price. The staff were also very helpful and told me exactly how to get to the places I wanted to see.

Simple Hotel in a Great Location

Posted May 27, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Update the rooms.
Location: Picasso Museum, Las Ramblas
We stayed two nights at Hotel Call, and while the rooms are run down, it's kept clean and the staff (one in particular, named William) were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are fairly small, so anyone with a family would be a bit cramped, as it was just my husband and I traveling. A bit pricey for what it was, but most hotels I looked at (and hostels) were in the higher price range, and this hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance to Las Ramblas as well as other sights like the Picasso Museum.

Reasonably priced hotel close to the sights

Except for the occasional elevator noise, this hotel was ideal for those concerned about price and location. The area was quiet, but only a few blocks from La Rambla. Clean and comfortable, although small.

Great central location

Posted Mar 27, 2014
Pros: Great location, excellent price.
Cons: My room had no windows and the air conditioning wasn't working properly making the room unbearably hot at times.
Great central location, just a stones throw from La Ramblas and Liceu metro station. Perfect hotel if you're planning on exploring the Gothic Quarter and enjoy getting about on foot.

Hotel call

Posted Mar 23, 2014
Pros: The hotel is very basic but that was all we needed for our 2 night stay, the narrow streets look a little daunting but they are fine.
Beware pickpockets in Barcelona,I had my phone taken out of my pocket, always said it would never happen to me, how wrong was I. But apart from that Barcelona is a great city, catalans very nice people .

Hotel for short break in Barcelona

Posted Mar 8, 2014
Pros: Cost and location close to a Metro (underground stop). Staff all had good English and were most helpful & they printed my return boarding passes.
Cons: WI-FI was a bit patchy although this is quite common in many hotels.
Location: Close to port where you could do harbour trips
Got a taxi from airport so I could get taken directly to the hotel but some roads were blocked off for some festival so taxi driver pointed me in direction of hotel. Eventually found the hotel which was actually in a narrow lane which the taxi could not have taken me to anyway. Check in was straightforward. Room was clean and bathroom had good shower. Safe deposit box not big enough for netbook but leaving it at reception was easy because I did not have to sign it out and in every time I wanted to use it. Getting boarding passes printed by the hotel was handy because there are so few internet cafes around now. I don't have a smartphone which you can use for boarding passes.

Central location in Barcelona

Posted Feb 27, 2014
Pros: Rock hard bed, noise
Cons: More comfortable beds, more insulation or sound absorbtion
Location: Very central for everything - food, entertainment, transport
Difficult to find, located in very narrow side street near the maze of Barcelona La Rambla district area. Hotel staff excellent, friendly and accommodating. Room depressing, no windows, tiny television, bed rock hard and no insulation - hear every step, voice, clank of elevator. Very central, plenty of shops, eating places and transport surrounding hotel.

Perfect location, handy for everything.

Pros: We were able to walk to lots of major sights and travel easily from the airport by bus to Catalunya Square. Exceptionally good value.
Cons: Curtains and bedcover could do with a woman's touch, rather plain and austere, but spotless. No shampoo provided.
Location: We used the open bus for 2 days and did most sights. Local restaurants cheap, but also try tapas at the market where the locals go.
The hotel's tucked away in a quiet side street wonderfully placed in the centre of the Gothic area. Loads of shops, restaurants and sights near by. Minutes from Ramblas and Catalunya Sq. Very clean and simple, with lovely staff. Ideal for adult sightseeing.
