Great hotel, friendly staff in a great locationPosted Sep 19, 2014
Just a short break to Barcelona, the hotel was in a fabulous location, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Spa treatment was also very good, loved the view from the pool area. Hotel was clean and room was very comfortable. All in all a good stay and I would definitely go back.

Great baroque style hotel, fantastic locationPosted Sep 13, 2014
My husband and I stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon last week. Location is brilliant, room was lovely with a view over Placa Nova and Barcelona Cathedral. Staff really helpful and friendly. Couldn't fault it, would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel in a great locationPosted Sep 12, 2014
Hotel Colon is in a fabulous position opposite the beautiful Cathedral and surrounded by great shopping, bars and restaurants. The square was bustling and had street entertainment in the evening. ..right on your doorstep. You are not far from Las Ramblas or down to the front or you could just spend hours walking round the medieval streets - so much to see and do, can't wait to go back.

4 star lobby and staff but 3 star roomsPosted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Rooms are outdated and could definitely use a refresh.
Location: Great location in the Gothic district, on the square by the Basilica. Many great restaurants within walking distance. Close to Barcelonetta!
This is rated as a 4 star hotel and certainly has a very nice lobby, a nice restaurant (on the lobby level), and a very good staff; however, the rest of the accommodations are dated and I would rate them as 3 star at best. For the first half of our trip, we stayed in a true 5 star hotel about 20 min walk north from the Gothic district, and the difference between the hotels was far more than 1 star; this makes me think the Hotel Colon is really bordering on being a 3 star hotel. That's fine if that's what your expecting, or if you got a good deal (which I did), but not ideal if you want something that's a 'real' 4 star experience. We loved the location because it is ideally located there in the Gothic district; there is so much to see in the area, so many good and great places to eat, and it's a very reasonable walk to Barcelonetta or there's a metro nearby that can get you there even faster. When we were there the bar area on the lobby level was never open, and I'm not sure why not. I generally do not eat at hotels when I can go elsewhere, and so with so many other options in the area I can't rate the restaurant here other than it is very beautiful. Because the bar was never open, I did see people having drinks in the restaurant; but it would seem to me they could do more with the bar area during the summer tourist season when they probably have too much competition against their restaurant.

Easy access to all the sightsPosted Aug 30, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff and spa bath
Cons: Tea and coffee facilities in the room
Location: Tour the cathedral opposite and see the geese that came to stay and have never left, walk the lanes and see the fantastic ham shops and sweets
Fantastic place to stay really friendly staff rooms are a bit dated but the spa bath makes up for it after a long day on your feet

Lively in the daytime, quiet at nightPosted Aug 27, 2014
Our room looked directly out on the Cathedral and plaza, and there were two comfy chairs and a little table that we could pull in front of the balconette window, to watch the passersby, and listen to buskers playing music, whenever we were back at the hotel. Nice and quiet for sleeping though, even with the church bells. A three minute walk to La Rambla. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Lovely hotel in perfect locationPosted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Comfort and location
Location: Location is ideal facing Cathedral. Las Ramblas is minutes away and plenty of lovely places to eat. Great for sightseeing and shopping.
Stayed for 3 nights mid August. Room was very spacious with private terrace and very clean. Staff always very helpful. Had breakfast one morning in the hotel which had a good variety - something for everyone. Would stay here again.
