Lively in the daytime, quiet at nightPosted Aug 27, 2014
Our room looked directly out on the Cathedral and plaza, and there were two comfy chairs and a little table that we could pull in front of the balconette window, to watch the passersby, and listen to buskers playing music, whenever we were back at the hotel. Nice and quiet for sleeping though, even with the church bells. A three minute walk to La Rambla. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Lovely hotel in perfect locationPosted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Comfort and location
Location: Location is ideal facing Cathedral. Las Ramblas is minutes away and plenty of lovely places to eat. Great for sightseeing and shopping.
Stayed for 3 nights mid August. Room was very spacious with private terrace and very clean. Staff always very helpful. Had breakfast one morning in the hotel which had a good variety - something for everyone. Would stay here again.

Before & after a cruisePosted Aug 20, 2014
Paid a lot more for room after a cruise, but they tried to give us a lesser room then we had on first stay.

Switched room typePosted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Location was great, rooms were clean.
Cons: No coffee in room, or anyplace other then breakfast room. The cost for a basic buffet was $11.50 E (about $18 US).
Two stays at this hotel, one before and one after a cruise, so on the second we know a littler about the rooms. we also had 12 in out group so saw several rooms on the first stay. We booked both stays through Expedia and decided to upgrade for the return stay to a bed room / sitting room option. After the cruise we all arrived early and expected to have a delay, but the bellman was great with baggage and the desk took all our names down, checked reservations, etc. so I saw a list with room numbers. when we finally got into the room it was the smallest & worse room we'd seen. I noted it was not the same room as was on the list so I went back to the desk they tried to tell me it was what I paid for even after showing him the two booking slips from Expedia. when I continued to insist he started the "no understand game". when I asked to speak to a manager he made a call and took me up to another room, it was better then the first, but not what I paid for.

Iconic hotel in a great locationPosted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: The hotel was classy, beautiful, comfortable, clean, and managed by gracious, helpful, English-speaking staffers.
Cons: We Americans are used to in-room coffeemakers. Instead we had to get dressed and go to the local chocolate shop for morning coffee and pastry. Darn!
Location: Get a good city map and explore narrow medieval streets with quaint shops and cafes, the famous Rambla market, the waterfront, and upscale Eixample.
The historic Hotel Colon in Barcelona's Old City, facing the wide pedestrian square in front of the majestic Gothic Cathedral, is an awesome place to stay. The hotel has been updated with all modern comforts and is right in the middle of the hoppin' Barcelona action. We chose an upgraded "room with a view" that looked straight out onto the Cathedral and the nonstop revelry taking place in the square. From the hotel we were able to walk or take the subway to every place in the city we wanted to visit. We even took a shuttle bus from the airport to the centralized Plaza Catalonia and from there easily pulled our roller bags 5 or 6 colorful blocks to the hotel. Midway through our stay we heard the hotel had built a rooftop spa they weren't yet advertising, so we found the right elevator button and spent a couple of blissful hours "Beta-testing" this impressive facility with a steam room, sauna, shallow cool-off soaking pool, lounge chairs, massage room, and a bar deck with a panoramic view of the Old City and Cathedral. From the minute we arrived at the Hotel Colon, we could see why people describe Barcelona as a "magical" city.

Fantastic location in BarcelonaPosted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: Location, beds, ambiance
The Hotel Colon was a great place to stay. Room was good sizes, bed was comfortable, A/C worked, staff was helpful. There's a bonus spa/lounge on the 7th floor open to all. The hotel is on the Cathedral square and has easy access to shopping, fantastic meals, the Metro, etc.
