“Beautiful view”

The hotel was located on the boulevard overlooking the port. Cocktails at sunset on the roof terrace were superb!

“Highly impressed”

We were very impressed the moment we walked into the lobby. Most of the staff spoke english and were very helpful with directions to the local sites of intrest. It was a bit of a walk from the metro station but very easy to find. We had a room on the harbor side and the window had a secondary window that controled the noise from the street below. The room was very quite. If I make it back to Barcelona I will definitly stay here again.

Area recommendations
If you're here on vacation, stay in the Gotico, El Raval or El Borne to be in the heart of the old city.
Getting around
Buy the Barcelona card. It made getting around very simple and gives you discounts to all the attractions, and some of them are free. It's a little confusing when leaving the airport as you board the long distance train (Renfre) to get into the main station in the city. When you get to the station (second stop) there is no signage to tell you where you need to go to get to the Metro but just follow everyone upstairs into the station. Once there you will be able to find signs to lead you to the Metro.

“pricey but no problems”

The hotel was ideally located for us. We like the old city center and quickly found a great pastry shop near the St Mercy Church nearby for breakfast. The standard tourist areas are nearby like La Rambla, Cathedral, and the many shops in the Gothic Quarter. We also liked going over to El Born that was more local in flavor. We even walked to the Gaudi Basilica. Beyond that I recommend a taxi. The beach is a 20 min walk. The Hotel itself was quiet and a nice retreat from activities during the day. We didn't eat at the hotel - found it expensive but there is a nice view of the port from the 6th floor terrace. There is a small pool also on the 6th floor - about right for one family at a time. The staff was very helpful and quite able to communicate in English.

Area recommendations
Gothic Quarter. This area is very unlike standard Americana. Tall old buildings and narrow alleys with who knows what kind of shop. The most interesting part is the lack of advertising. I didn't know what was ahead until right next to it. There could be a grocery, shoes, hardware, juice, pastry, ice cream, tapas, or other type of shop next to each other or next to a closed up space, old church, or roman ruin. Graffeti is much more common that expected and most shops are securely locked although we never felt unsafe walking down any street or alley.
When to go
We went in late July. Lots of tourists. Most shops don't open until 10, then some close from 2-3:30. Best to stay up late and get up late like the locals.

“Excellent location, close to everything!”

We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel. The rooftop bar is gorgeous and provides a wonderful view of the harbor and surrounding area. The room itself was spacious and the bathroom was large. The bed was a bit on the older, frumpy side, but surprisingly comfortable. We would definitely visit this hotel again.

Area recommendations
We very much enjoyed checking out the architecture (especially Gaudi), the old cathedrals, La Boqueria (the market, a must see!, look for Pinotxcho for fantastic tapas and eat the chickpeas in truffle oil), La Rambla for people watching and pretty decent/cheap food. Check out the beach (Barceloneta) and the harbor as well. Tons to do, very modern city. Watch out for pick pockets, especially on the metro, especially while boarding in a crowd.
Getting around
Definitely rely on the Metro. Very afforable if you buy a T-10 pass (good for 10 trips). Metro is fast, efficient and runs frequently. No need to cab it.

“Very good experience”

The hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating. Location was great. Enjoyed the roof top bar. Would definitely recommend to friends.

“Great Location and Service”

We loved our hotel so much that we canceled another hotel later in our trip to re-book the Duquesa de Cardona! The location is perfect, rooms were clean and quiet, the rooftop deck is beautiful although the service is slow, and we couldn't have been happier with the front desk staff. They happily held our bags upon check in until the room was ready, gave us great tourist advice (lots of pick-pockets in Las Ramblas, great restaurants towards the marina, etc.) We are already looking forward to staying there again! The only downfall is that the hotel does not have a fitness center, but we ran along the beach boardwalk.

Gothic Quarter! Beautiful, quiet, pedestrian, wonderful area for wandering around and enjoying the cafes!

“Axoamaoxa”

The hotel was great, though not quite perfect. The staff (front desk, cleaning, waiter, barkeep -- were always friendly and helpful. (We were there for a week, and interacted with several staff.) . The room was clean, high-quality, comfortable. The top-floor, outdoors bar/lounge was attractive and comfy, if a bit on the underused side. (One had to phone for a waiter, and the selection of wines was stunningly minimal -- basically, "White, or red?".) Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would use the hotel again if we needed to be in its area of town.

“Harbor view!”

This hotel is charming. It is a beautifully designed boutique hotel and our room, in the front of the hotel, provided a wonderful view of the Harbor. Our first choice was "The Arts" hotel, which was fully booked. The rooms at "The Arts" are luxurious, but it is in a very inconvenient location. The Duequesa de Cardona is also at the port, but it backs onto the old quarter so it very convenient for walking around Barcelona. The staff is welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Unexpected upgrade to a Suite”

Upon check in tot hotel, was given an upgrade to a Suite. A very large bedroom/living room area, with two full bathrooms. An unexpected upgrade. Lunch on the Terrace just after check in, and Dinner that same evening had a good view of the Marina. A little bit of mix up on our Dinner order, otherwise a very peaceful experience.

“hope for an upgrade”

we had 2 stays at this hotel; the first included an upgrade to essentially a double room including 2 bathrooms - the second was a regular room which as others have described is on the small side. Comfortable stay but I would not want to get trapped in a regular size room for any length of time. good bathrooms - review is based on the cost - this is not a 5 star hotel
