Great location with views over the port

Posted Aug 15, 2014
Pros: The location and standard of the rooms
Cons: A bigger pool would be good but there is no room for one
Location: The location is fantastic, the port area has a good selection of shops (open till 10pm) and restaurants for lunch or dinner and the aquarium too.
The roof terrace is a fantastic addition and a lovely place to spend the late afternoon because it gets a breeze but the pool was very small and a disappointment to the children, if you just want somewhere to cool off with a drink it was great. There are only 6 sunbeds but there was usually 1 free. Very friendly staff, free wifi was very reliable (including on the terrace), rooms were great, bathrooms had a bath and large separate shower and the aircon stayed on all the time. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as there were many other options just outside the door at a quarter of the price but we did have lunch which was very good and reasonable. Most of the guests seemed to be English or American. The nearest metro station and bus stops were a short walk away and the Ramblas and the beach are also very close. We saw most things on foot, the Sagrada Familia and Miro museum are about a 45 minute gentle strole. We have visited Barcelona a few times before and would recommend this hotel as a great base which is easy to get back to before going out again in the evening. It is equally good for couples or families because of the pool and proximity to the beach.

Great property

The staff were uniformly great. All were courteous, anxious to help, friendly and energetic. Property is in a great location. Walked to Las Ramblas and many great meals. Only 45 rooms. Just the right size for us.

Very nice hotel & good location.

I can't praise this hotel enough, great location, perfect room with excellent air con, toiletries, lovely staff etc. On arrival we were given a complimentary glass of bubbly each for example. We didn't try the breakfast as near to bakery & it cost 18 euros but I would imagine it to be very nice. Roof terrace with bar & pool also wonderful. The staff couldn't do enough for you.

Spacious quiet room with lovely rooftop terrace and free glass of bubbly on check-in. Pool is very small but fine for a quick cool-down. Close to las ramblas and metro station for getting further afield.

Wonderful roof top bar hotel

Posted Jun 2, 2014
Pros: Drinks on the roof top bar, spectacular view and very chilled out feel. Room comfort, clean hotel and reception staff great all in a fab location!
Cons: The service in the bar, all very polite, but be ready to wait to be served.
Location: Perfect location to explore the Gothic quarter, les Rambles, the port or the beach. Great views and place to relax after a busy day in the city.
A lovely welcoming hotel. We were welcomed with a glass of Cava, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the hotel staff very helpful with anything you need. The rooms have everything you need including a choice of pillows, even a choice of room freshener scents, clean bed linen daily if you wanted along with very quiet rooms, we were on the second floor and the only time we heard any noise outside was a drunken singer very loud under our balcony, but even that we hardly noticed. Best part of the hotel by far is the roof top bar, however the only reason I didn't give this hotel a five for hotel staff was the length of time for service at the roof top bar, be prepared to wait for your drinks, they are worth the wait but mañana mañana! Also ordered some tapas and after an hour went and asked, not sure if they forgot but it suddenly appeared. Great location, easy reach for the metro, buses or sights, las rambles and for exploring the gothic quarter. Lovely restaurants nearby, would stay again and highly recommend!

Excellent overall

Staff are fully bilingual and charming. Location is perfect, walking distance of important sites like Las Ramblas, Cathedral, Gothic City and much more. Is in front of Paseo Maritimo or Rambla del Mar with all the Marinas and excellent cafés and restaurants. The room is comfortable with nice air condition and very quiet. The terrace is amazing for nights you are too tire. You can have light dinner, excellent salads and drinks wit the most beautiful view of the port and sea.

A Very Nice, Well Located Small Hotel

Posted May 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
The Duquesa is a good choice for those who want an excellent European style lodging. By that I mean the rooms were a bit smaller than in American hotels, and the amenities not quite as extensive. For example, there was limited shelf space in the bathroom and fewer towels, though enough with careful organization. One thing we particularly liked was that we asked for a quiet room. We got a room with no view, which didn't matter to us, and the room was exceptionally quiet, as was the hotel in general while we were there. Location was also excellent, close to the waterfront, the Barrio Gòtik and La Rambla. Our only issue was with the service in the small adjunct breakfast area next to the front desk. The area seemed to have been added as an afterthought, and the service was spotty. On the other hand, the deck area on the roof of the hotel provides excellent views and place to relax.
