“A gem in Las Ramblas -- I'd go back!”
Although there are lots of flashy (and expensive) hotels in this area, I was very happy at Sant Agustin. My room was of average size (by European standards) and very clean. Although the hotel building is quite old, the bathroom was very modern. The furniture in my room was of quaint antique Spanish style. The double bed was very comfy. This hotel is one block off Las Ramblas about three blocks up from the statue of Christopher Columbus, making it very convenient to everything (restaurants, pubs and the currency exchange). The square in front of the hotel is always busy. I was there on a Saturday night and the kids were playing soccer until after 11 p.m. However, when I closed my windows, I didn't hear a thing. The AC was also effective and quiet. Breakfast is included in your stay at the hotel. It is basic, but more than adequate for our North American tastes. There is also an internet kiosk in the lobby. The desk staff is very friendy and helpful. There seemed to be quite a few Brits staying in the hotel the night I was there. Hearing English was quite a treat after a week of French, Spanish and Italian. This is a great hotel if you are staying one or two nights. I think I might find the room small if I were staying longer. Of course, the goal of visiting Barcelona is not to stay in your hotel room!!
