Your Guide to Hotels

Glorious Gaudi, in Barcelona - “I was hardly aware of Antoni Gaudi before my first trip to Barcelona. But when I started reading up on the city, I quickly realized that no trip was even close to being complete without visiting at least a few of his architectural marvels. His architecture, or at least the influence of his architectural style, is everywhere in this Spanish city—in the buildings, the souvenirs, and the fashion. Here’s a list of must-see Gaudi buildings in Barcelona; a beginner's glimpse into his awesome other-worldliness.”

Hotels

There are a variety of hotels in Barcelona to choose from during your stay. Some visitors enjoy staying in Ciutat Vella, the old town, which is home to the Barri Gotic and La Rambla. Others prefer vacationing in the historical Garcia District, conveniently located near Sagrada Família and Parc Güell. Some Barcelona hotels feature rooftop terraces with pools and captivating views of the city, while other lodging is within walking distance of some of the most famous attractions in the city.

Transportation

As Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona has a lot to offer. One of the best ways to experience it all is to board the hop-on hop-off Barcelona Bus Turistic, which provides three routes that take visitors to some of the most notable attractions, from Sagrada Família to Plaça de Catalunya.

The Barcelona Metro is another convenient way of getting around. Depending on your travel plans, you can buy single passes or multi-journey tickets. The routes service central Barcelona and its surrounding suburbs.

Vacationers can also reserve rental cars in Barcelona, but do realize that the streets are often packed with traffic and parking spots are expensive. Driving is only recommended for those who are used to commuting around the city and navigating the road system.

Travel Basics

Catalan and Spanish are the official languages in Barcelona, but the majority of the signs are written in Catalan. Many of the locals generally address visitors in Spanish, but vacationers may find some English speakers in the more touristy areas, especially in the shops and bars. If you’re familiar with Spanish, try practicing it while you’re in town.

Just as in any large city, visitors need to be aware of scammers and pick pockets. As a general rule, be on guard and weary of anyone asking for directions or showing off magic tricks. Thieves may try to distract you and while an accomplice robs you. Wear your passport and wallet in a money belt for safe keeping.

Weather

Barcelona boasts a subtropical-Mediterranean climate, which gives way to warm summers and mild winters. The months of May through July are some of the best times to visit, as the weather is warm and agreeable. By August, the weather usually hits the high 80s F, and it can be especially humid and muggy. Starting in October the days start to cool down and it becomes more overcast. By the winter, the temperatures usually average the mid-50s F.

Lounge on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and sip on coffee in Ciutat Vella at any time of the year. Barcelona is the kind of place that you can enjoy regardless of the season. Use Expedia.com to book cheap flights to Barcelona to kick start your European getaway today.
