Pros: The old world atmosphere and friendly staff.
Cons: New beds urgently needed in room 12.
Location: A trip to the High Force is a must and nearby Barnard Castle is a good shopping town
The hotel is very pleasant and the food excellent, but the beds in the room we had were very uncomfortable - the springs had certainly seen their best days! For the price one expects better than this.

The Best! I have run out of superlativesPosted Nov 10, 2012
Pros: The little touches they have thought if everything
Cons: Nothing couldn't fault it
We picked this place because of the trip advisor ratings so our expectations were high, but it still managed to exceed them. Gorgeous location, fab room, so clean and sparkly, lovely little touches, the smellies were lush, the tea and coffee nice ones, bedding clean and very soft, bed very comfortable. Service quick and very good, food delicious, breakfast superb. I couldn't fault a thing. I loved the book explaining how everything works very amusingly written, answered all our questions. We took our dog and we were welcomed and could eat in the bar with him if we chose. We will be going again and recommending to friends and family. It isn't the cheapest but worth the little extra.

Friendly & welcoming place in rural locationPosted Feb 19, 2012
My wife and I stayed at the Rose & Crown in February. We had a brilliant time and were very impressed with the standard of accommodation, excellent food, the superiority of bathroom toiletries and quality of the service. Nothing appeared to be much trouble from the staff including borrowing a wine bottle stopper, to supplying a champagne bucket to the room. My wife thought the idea of listing all the suppliers was excellent. It was reassuming to know the produce is from local suppliers. The food was so fresh. This country hotel is truly an experience worth waiting for. We would definitely recommend you to others and stay again in the future. Well done Rose and Crown. Keep it up

Rose & Crown - traditional England at it's bestPosted Jul 17, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel is situated in the small village of Romaldkirk sited in lush green countryside. The village is stunning and there are lots of beautiful walks on the hotel doorstep. The bar is warm and friendly and the food in the restaurant outstanding. I had one of the best nights sleep of my life in a wonderfully quiet and comfortable room. The room although small was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. A wonderful place to stay.

great hotelPosted Jul 10, 2011 on Hotels.com
Fantastic food, great service, lovely location. Only bad thing - bed and pillows not the best, which is a shame as everything else was great.
