“Dorint Close to Messe but expensive”

Very expensive for what you get. For that matter, so is switzerland.The rooms clean but very small. Top blanket/sheet combo as wide as bed. Sleep on your side and it may not cover you. Charged for everything. Shirt cleaned - 13 CH (swiss franks. Breakfast -= 24CH. INternet, 15CH. Plug in internet rate different.. 5 min walk to Messe. free transport ticket. easy to get around Basel

Area recommendations

Downtown - old section. Old architechture. Narow winding streets. Old world feel. Stairways to river level. Can walk along Rhein. Nice views from bridges. Basel nice as stopover for a day.

“just fine for Art Basel”

Rather anonymous but clean Hotel, four star level, close to Basel Messe. I was there for the Art Fair. The neighbourhod is not very nice, much better to stay downtown. Rather overpriced.

“Nice, clean, eifficient, no unpleasant surprises.”

Nice. No surprises. Clean rooms, good service. Nice restaurant. a bit pricey. good food. Good breakfast buffet. Courteous and efficient staff. Had to pay 20CHF / day for high-speed internet. consistent high speed. Parking about 20CHF per night extra. This was a good place for business trip. Reasonable prices. We would proabably have chosen a different hotel as tourists. Maybe closer to the river, with some trees or gardens around.

“It is good if you know ahead the real price”

Location is far from the town. Walking distance, yes, over 20 blocks. It is not walking for everyone. Front desk is not kind. I had to put myself serious and finally solved some issues with the manager who is really a manager, well trained and polite. The room was clean and nice. Extremely expensive breakfast if you believe it is included in price. Paid for internet and parking. It was ok to go like I did, just on my way to somewhere else. But we can get better hotels in Europe for the price I paid.

Area recommendations

It is mostly shopping, (French or German) little English, and I supposed a sky center. I found it very beautiful town, clean and it was summer. I am a tourist who enjoys the view quite a lot. This please is worth to stop and look. Cafes and bars where packed because it was th Soccer world cup and people watched the games on big TV screens.

“Excellent Service and Amenities”

Services were exactly as expected, and more: they provided a free public transportation card for the length of my stay in Basel. The bus stops just 1/2 block from the hotel door and ran on schedule. The desk loaned me a power adapter. The room was just as pictured on their website. The duvets were so luxurious. The restaurant was wonderful. The continental breakfast was a full buffet!, including custom-made omelets. Needless to say, I loved this hotel.

Area recommendations

The Basel Tourist Bureau has produced five walking tours of Old Basel. They are all wonderfully prepared and researched. Signs mark the routes. The old areas of the city are very beautiful. Taking the ferry across the Rhine is a very relaxing short trip, a definite photo op.

When to go

Be aware that many businesses, including restaurants, are closed on Good Friday and the Monday following Easter.

Must see

The Cultural Museum is a must see. The exhibits are well-presented and aesthetically pleasing. On our trip we were treated to an exhibit and film on Textiles of West Africa.

“Dorint hotel in Basel is highly recommended”

We stayed there two nights in mid-November. The weather was awful, but the hotel was a pleasant surprized. Convenient garage, proximity to public transportation, very friendly staff. We also got a very reasonable rate. Highly recommended, especially for business travelers.
