Lovely, clean & quiet

Posted Sep 2, 2014
We spent 2 nights there. It was very clean & quiet with comfortable beds. These requirements are important to us. We found it easily accessible to public transit, the Rhine and old town is a reasonable walk.

Pros: Wonderful staff, small but pleasant rooms
Cons: Terrible shower - poor water pressure Wifi was unreliable during the day but if you're up at night due to jet lag it's fine
Location: Great location, close to SBB, marktplatz and M√ľnster
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Rochat. The staff were extremely pleasant, the hotel old but charming and well maintained.

Lovely place at a good price for Switzerland

Posted Aug 31, 2012
Pros: The neighbourhood
Cons: only subjective issue was insubstantial pillows
Excellent and economical option for Basel. The staff are really great, the rooms are clean and quiet & the neighbourhood is beautiful. It's a short walk down some stairs (or a nearby public elevator) to the market square, and getting to the train station is easy on tram 30 from Spalentor stop (a 5 minute walk - no need to lug suitcases up and down the old town stairs). I was given a free tram pass for my visit which was brilliant - it got me to the airport at the end of the stay too.

A reasonable cost-benefit ratio

Breakfast is not included in the price shown. Number of parking spaces less than 4. Location relatively close to the tram. Have air-conditioning! Rare in Switzerland. A reasonable cost-benefit ratio

Cost Effective Hotel in Basel

Posted Jun 2, 2012
Pros: Free Tram pass if staying in hotel. Gorgeous Art Museum
Cons: No bathroom amenities, no magnifying mirror in bathroom, 1 English tv station.
Location: Good location near the old town with easy access to the trams/busses
Hotel Rochat in Basel has a good location for walking into the old town, nearby trams and not far from the Rhine River. We still needed to use a taxi to get to the River Cruise Boat we went on, but if you have lighter baggage, then you could take a tram and walk. Trams are free if you are staying at the hotel (they give you a tram pass). Tram system is great! The hotel is adequate and clean - no frills. Buffet breakfast, which we did not take, is basic buffet. Coffee/tea after 3pm is free we were told. We were there two nites prior to a River Boat Cruise & it was certainly good enough. Basel is a walking town with lots of university students, shops, museums & hills - and a bit expensive. With that in mind, the Hotel was certainly quiet and adequate.
