good hotelPosted Jul 29, 2013
My wife and I stayed with our 2 daughters aged 10 +12 in July 2013, the room was good, it was very hot outside and the air con was more than up to the job , there is no parking outside the hotel but there is a car park at the end of the road, which , if you are out of before 8am there is no charge , we left at 10 am on our way to Paris and there was only a nominal charge(2-3 Euro).Breakfast, as with all French hotels is continental and is ok , but dont go there expecting anything fancy, its enough to get you going until lunch.staff were pleasant and spoke good english, overall a pleasing hotel that we would go back to and Bayonne is a really nice town.

nice hotel with good location for central BayonnePosted Jul 15, 2013
In a central spot of Bayonne, this hotel has a convenient location. The room for 4 people was quite spacious and comfortable. In the middle of July we did not feel much heat, with the windows overlooking the street conveniently facing north. Also the aircon was quite efficient. Unfortunately there are no leisure facilities, but the drive to the nearest beach is not too long. Another downside is that it is not easy to find parking in the immediate vicinity. Luckily the hotel provides (for Eur 14 per day) places in a near-by private muti-storey garage, which is within 5 min walk. Bizarrely, they do not give you an access card for that garage to keep with you during your stay, every time you need to pick it up and return at the reception. Hence you are forced to always plan around this arrangement.. But this is not a major let-down, overall the hotel provides decent quality of accommodation and rather friendly (in French terms) service..

Very good beds and beautiful locationPosted May 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
Very good hotel on a great location. Lack of restaurant is a bit of an issue if you are arriving late but there are plenty of places to eat around.

A good choice if you can get a special rate.Posted Mar 7, 2013
Cons: small room, random decor, sliding bathroom door that didn't close all of the way.
Location: Great, central location in downtown Bayonne.
Nice clean hotel in a good location. Room was a bit small and furnishings in the common areas were pretty random (cabinet with empty glass shelves, a single old chair that looked like it belongs in a dorm room sitting on a landing). Also, the sliding bathroom door that didn't shut all the way was another low point. But we got a great deal on the room at under $100/night so we were happy with it. I would never have paid the list price for the room.

Older style hotel with more character than many modern chains.Although located on a main shopping street, the location is very quiet with minimal traffic noise. I was at the front and enjoyed uninterrupted nights' sleep, even on Friday and Saturday nights, although the wet weather may have been a factor. Very large room with huge bed! Bathroom also spacious. Rooms and public areas well maintained and clean. Friendly reception staff, all of whom speak English well. Buffet breakfast is fine, you can obtain cheaper at local cafes although without the option of cold meats and cheeses and unlimited beverages. There is a comfortable bar, though it seems rarely to be manned and only once in five days saw anyone using it. Lift is a period piece and quite a talking point, but seems to work efficiently. Free internet access in lobby for guests although this was down during the last two days of my stay. (Only a very minor inconvenience for myself.) If arriving by train a taxi is probably a good idea if you need time to get your bearings, otherwise hotel is 10/15 mins walk to/from station. No restaurant at hotel, but loads within walking distance including one right next door. Could not fault any of the several that I tried, but especially impressed by "Le Bayonnais" down by the river.

Central location for history and foodPosted Oct 11, 2012
Pros: Location and breakfast
Cons: sounds of plumbing
Location: Excellent for history and eating
Central location in the old -- and most interesting -- part of Bayonne. Easy walking to history and good eating. Excellent buffet breakfast. Only one issue with the hotel itself: when upstairs guests flushed or showered, we heard the water flowing down!
Noise of all sorts!Posted Oct 4, 2012 on Hotels.com
It costs too much for little comfort: the building doesn't isolate the sound! We could hear the guests steps as if there were elephants upstairs. The toilet flush of other rooms sounded like a waterfall and woke us up several times, we could even hear some guest next door snoring. Interestingly enough, there's a sign requesting from the guests silence in the halls, but just the old lift makes a lot of noise itself!

great locationPosted Aug 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
A most pleasant part of Bayonne to stay in, Le Grand is close to all amenities, restaurants and very close to bus stops for Biarritz, Anglet commercial/shopping district etc. The hotel lobby is sleek and inviting, the old-syle lift and rooms are charmingly French. Across the street is the excellent Tarte Julie, a great lunch spot, only down the street from Galerie Lafayette! One girl at reception was particularly helpful with maps and directions, but the opposite was true of her colleague, a man who was downright rude as we checked out. Having obviously misheard our room numbers, he insisted that we owed over 400 euro, despite ALL details on the bill being incorrect, even the name! No apology was forthcoming when he realised his mistake. Stand your ground with this chap!
