“The Grenville Hotel is the best”
The Grenville Hotel is a delightful show place. The staff are very friendly, accomodating and helpful. I look forward to going back. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
“Charming, Classy, Comfy”
The Grenville is a majestic 110 year old hotel in swanky Bayhead, NJ. The brunch is excellent and we got 2 for 1 for staying. All staff and the owner is super friendly and accomodating. Close to beach and shops; Clean rooms with turn of the century character. Fireplace in restaurant is grand... We're going back maybe as soon as Valetentine's weekend!
“Craig's Comments”
excellent hotel, charming vintage hotel, greta location
“Hotel with the character right next to the beach.”
The hotel is absolutely functional and clean but is starting to show its age. On the other hand the staff's friendliness and their will to go out of their way to keep the guests happy more than makes up for the lack of shiny. Overall, it feels like a European hotel, so do not expect a Hilton in the middle of a Jersey shore town. Another big plus the location can not be beat - two blocks from the beach, in the nice and quiet part of the shore. No designated parking but even during the high season we didn't have trouble finding a spot on the street (not metered).
“I would Go BAck”
I went with my daughter and it was a nice experience. The people and the area was great and safe and a nice and quiet beach. I would love to go back.
“Perfect Location”
We were attending a wedding in lavalette and point pleasant. It was just a perfect place to stay , right in the middle of everything. They do accept pets and we did bring Misty with us! Next morning we woke up and walked right to the beach with misty. it was perfect!
“Great Location!”
Was so close to the private beach. They even provided beach chairs , umbrellas and towels! Breakfast was OK. muffins, toast and cold cereal. Nice staff. Could use a little updating in room.
“Charming hotel but advise caution re food discount”
The hotel and restaurant are old but charming. Staff are very pleasant. Food is good but some items are a bit pricey ... and if you are buying wine with the meal I would NOT recommend trying to take advantage of the hotel discount policy. We ended up paying more that way rather than less due to the automatic 20% gratuity -- which great generosity to the waitress simply did not require. :-(
“OK for the price but don't expect luxury”
The rooms are small, no closet in ours and very little space to put stuff. And we had a "mid size" room. Little commonplace items missing like bathroom glasses and a clock. They didn't empty our trash the whole time we were there (and there is only one small trash can in the bathroom). The bed was comfortable but not the pillows. The food at the restaurant is quite good, but the service is slow, even when there are few customers. The complimentary breakfast seemed indifferent - the first morning was adequate with an assortment of cereal, toast, muffins, bagel, fruit and juice, but after that it seemed not to have been restocked with only a few boxes of Frosted Flakes, a few English muffins, no fruit, and some leftover pastries. Location is good as it is real close to the beach. Room rates are reasonable considering what you get.
“No Surprises”
This is a very homey, laid back (and probably historic) property. It is not a 5 star hotel, so lower your expectations. I checked in late and my key was sitting at the front desk with a note. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The free breakfast was continental, as advertised. Parking is off-site, street parking. I always got a close spot during my stay, but during season, you will probably need to walk a bit. The location is excellent, with the Bay Head beach only 1 block away. The "Market" is just a short walk south for newspapers, snack, drinks, etc. I will definitely return next year.
