“Faultless restaurant”

Didn't know what to expect from this heritage hotel in the process of being upgraded. We were delighted. the "small" room was large in my reckoning - very comfortable bed, flat screen TV etc. Huge bathroom - with a bath - all modern - and a lovely deck outside where we sat in the sun and had breakfast. But the real find in this hotel was the restaurant. Faultless. We both have pretty high standards in food, and this place is worth staying at for the chef alone (of course you can eat there without staying - but hey!

“The Most Idyllic ocation”

Excellent location, sit on the wooden veranda for breakfast and look at the sea, boats and small foot ferry plying it's trade. Continental breakfast is fab, they make bacon and onion cakes! Don't have a room on the front, firstly you may want an early night and the people enjoying the night sitting on the veranda may keep you awake. If you are awake, get out of your room, walk across the single tracked road and sit on the beach! The staff can't do enough for you. Catch the foot ferry and go and see the Waitangi Treaty grounds, go on a trio to see the hole in the rock and basically chill out.

“"Charming"”

The room we stayed in was their smallest, but very clean as well as recently renovated. The hotel staff were very accommodating and very friendly. The best perk of staying at the hotel was its location, right on the water, quiet and so peaceful.

“A historic hotel in a perfect situation”

This is wonderful historic hotel that has been thoroughly renovated and updated to provide a very pleasent hotel in a perfect situation. The only criticisms come about due to its historic age. For example noise does travel through the building if, for example, they have live music in the bar. However, you can get a room at back at the hotel away from the noise. The position of the hotel could not be bettered and I would love to have stayed their for longer!

“Quiet, Quirky, and Quite Enjoyable”

This is an old hotel that has been renovated (somewhat). It is somewhere between a small grand hotel and Faulty Towers. Excellent food, eager service, and somewhat antique surroundings. The room was sparce but sizable with a very comfortable bed and a very usable renovated bathroom.

Amazing stay, staff very friendly, food at the restaurant, exceptional. Location... romantic.

“Nice hotel but overpriced for the quality”

This is an old hotel in need of upgrading, there is no air flow in the rooms without having the doors open both to the deck and the main coridoor. If you are in room three then you have the noise from the stairwell right beside your head and the bar below. Also if you are unfortunate to stay when a group is booked in don't accept a sundeck room as you will not get any peace until they go to bed be it 3am as was the case for us as the doors from the rooms all open onto the deck. I have stayed here previously but I would not use it again. I think this is a hotel for 1 night just to be in Russell but if you intend to stay longer book elsewhere.
