Nice traditional hotelPosted Sep 10, 2013
with excellent secure locked underground parking facility across the road with CCTV from the hotel AND easily accessible - also for right-hand driven cars - with the city centre in walking distance. The hotel's Restaurant was closed in the week we visited, but the recommended "Oskar - Das Wirtshaus am Markt", Maximilianstrasse 33, is well worth a visit.

Excellent value!Posted Jun 22, 2012
Pros: Great location adjacent to the train station.
Cons: No complaints
Great hotel for the price - very efficient and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Larger rooms than most hotels. Would definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at this quaint hotel, it has a high degreee of comfort and it's also very hommy. Very conveniently located, right next to the railway station. Good restaurants aroung that area too. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful.

Easy Access for Rail TravelersPosted May 30, 2012
Location: To left as emerge from rail station, at right angles, on Bahnhofstrasse
This is our favorite hotel as frequent travelers to the Franconia region of Germany. The hotel is comfortable, very convenient to everything in Bayreuth, including the rail station (Haupbahnhof) next door that has an excellent bookstore-newstand, cafe-bakery, McDonalds, the hotel's own excellent restaurant, 'The Gendarmarie', and the Cafe Doring just next door to the restaurant. The rail station provides direct service to Nuremberg (40 min), Munich ( Munchen 1-1/2 hr), Dresden (2-1/2 hrs), Berlin (4 1/2 hrs), and Frankfurt Airport (4-1/2 hrs). The hotel is old but modern rooms, easy walking distance to all historical sites as well as market town center with pedestrian-only streets, outdoor cafes everywhere, and a modern shopping mall adjacent to the outdoor plazas. Tourist info center is 2 1/2 blocks from hotel, Festspiel Haus and Margrafen Operhaus (1748) are in equi-distant but opposite directions from well-located hotel (= to 4 city blocks, 1-2 kilometers). Recommend!

Great location fior train and FestspielhausPosted May 15, 2012 on Hotels.com
This was a basic, clean and acceptable hotel. However, it has no airconditioning and was hot in the spring -- wouldn't want to chance it in the summer. Staff was helpful, efficient and friendly. Location was fine for people taking the train (not us) and for going to the Festspielhaus (we did). Breakfast was acceptable. Price was good. THe "double" room we reserved was unacceptable to us as too small (we just came from a 5-Star in Munich) and they graciously moved us into a bigger room which was much nicer and quite fine -- and for which they did not try to increase the cost over what we had booked online.

Excellent value -- great, quiet location right beside the train station - only one complaint -- I could receive, but not send email -- you can always go to the cafe in the train station if you have a t-mobile account!
