This hotel worked out perfectly for my trip to LA. In looking for a place to stay I do the same research everyone else probably does. And when you read reviews, every hotel has a couple of weird reviews where people complain about the most random things and you don’t know whether to believe it, see it as a trend of the hotel or just someone that looks for something to be wrong. I am a single guy from the Midwest, in my 30’s to give you context.
My experience at this hotel though was great. The hotel was re-done earlier this year – and it comes off like a trendy LA hotel you kind of imagine when thinking about SoCal. However, this hotel does not come along with the baggage of a trendy hotel – the pretentiousness. The staff is friendly and the hotel patrons are a good mix.
The pool is great…and they started poolside service on Memorial Day Weekend…and the food is really good. The music at the pool is a good compliment and not annoying and overly clubby. The rooms were great…and have a small balcony with a couple chairs. Splurge for the Marina view rooms…it is worth it.
I was worried because it was a bit off the beaten path…if you want to walk to a bunch of tourist attractions this hotel is not for you. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in the middle of the LA area, this is it. It took me 45-60 minutes to get to Burbank or Hollywood…and 15 minutes to get to Santa Monica…5-10 minutes for Venice Beach.
I would definitely stay here again.

We were in town for our daughter's engagement party. Casa del mar was a great break from all the festivities, with a great bar, good food and a superb location! The hotel is elegant and well run. The pool is refreshing and the wait staff there on the ball each time!

Visited Ocean View prior to renovation - and now after renovation. Stylish and extremely well done. View is the same, now enhanced by plantation shutters and room fittings. Joy in reception was welcoming and efficient.

Pros: great location, close to the Pier, great shopping, restaurants, friendly staff.
cons: $40 overnight parking. When we arrive at the hotel we were told they only offer $40 over night valet park. So plan to add this to your stay. Our room smelled like cigaretts. It was supposed to be non smoking room.

Life is a never-ending summer in LA’s Beach Cities. Redondo Beach and surfing are forever intertwined. On weekends, many Angelinos head to Santa Monica to relax in the ocean and hang out at the Third Street Promenade. The Getty Center, an art-world powerhouse, is nestled in the nearby hills north of Brentwood. Santa Monica’s neighbor, Malibu, is home to The Getty Villa and its antiquities.
