“Our Beijing Favorite”
Exceptional service, great location, and breakfast is included. Staff were professional and attentive to detail. Felt more like a home than a hotel. Rooms are limited so book early!
“Simply great standerd and quite”
The staff all spoke english to diffrent levels but always new enough to help arainge evening entertainment or day trips. The hotel was quite, relaxing and the service was nothing more than I expected. If you want an orthentic feel, polite helpful staff and a smile this is for you. It is not a hotel where you are pamperd rather, you feel more like a frfiend come to visit. I stayed for ten days and would stay again. It is very close to the main attractions in the city (walking takes 15/20minutes) and you can order taxis to comr to the door. The staff are knowledgable and like most places, their service is reflected in the manner you speak to them. Be polite and they will move mountains for you.
“Stay in a Hutong experience”
Authenetic China experience in the middle of Beijing! If visiting Beijing one should really not only stay in the upmarket Western style hotels.
“Wonderful hutong hotel”
Wonderful hotel. Pleasant staff, and they spoke English. Very pretty hotel with nice courtyards, decorations. Small and wonderful. Some tongue-in-cheek communist decor throughout. Both wireless and wired internet in the room worked perfectly. Very nice breakfast with many choices. Location is out of the way on a back alley (hutong) but easy to get around. It's a quiet oasis in an otherwise traffic-choked, smog-filled city.
“Good Experience”
Was impressed. Stayed 8 days in March, in the smallest room. Staff apologized on arrival for malfunctioning central heating. It seemed ok to me. Along with the heat function on the A/C unit, had no trouble keeping the room warm during sub-zero nights (but possibly larger rooms would not be kept warm by just the same A/C unit.) Building is old (the point, of course), but the room was well-updated. Clean, well-decorated and appointed. No shortage of hot water. In-room safe. Staff were cheerful, friendly, and helpful. I had little difficulty understanding anyone's English. None of the obvious 'I'd rather be somewhere else' attitude common in that type of job. So much so I assumed while I was there they must be relatively well-paid. Even the morning cleaning staff were smiling and friendly (and literally running from place to place). Check the lock on the room door-knob. Mine was very easy to 'jimmy' open from outside the room. I reported this en route to breakfast, and they were installing a new door knob by the time I returned from breakfast. Breakfast was consistently good. Some have complained of the lack of variety. Yes, it's the same food every morning, but it's just about every type of food you could want for breakfast, and all you could eat. For the budget-conscious, you could make breakfast the main meal of the day. Location very convenient. Wall tour through them was fine (go to Jinshanling - far, far fewer people on the wall). Exceeded expectations. I would return.
“Best small hotel we've ever been to, worth the 14+ hour flight from the US just to go there!!”
This hotel is EXACTLY what we hoped it would be: perfect 'Chinese' experience, at least from what a Westerner would think it should be...adorable staff who went far above what most chain type hotels would provide, traditional decor with beautiful courtyard, great breakfast...we were a little worried when we turned down the hutong (alley) in the cab as there was 'no way' a hotel could be on the tiny street...but there it was, nestled among the little hole in the wall businesses and all the neighborhood people...perfect. The concierges were so helpful, so funny...our room was super clean, with interesting designs, including the door to the room, the wall and window treatments, the bed coverings, everything....we can't wait to have some more time and money to go back...GOOD EXPERIENCE!!! GO THERE!!! :)
“Triple Happiness!!!”
Wow! is all I can say. I can honestly say it's the best overall hotel I've ever stayed in. If you want a cultural experience this is smack in the middle of a real Hutong with sights and sounds you will not get in a western style hotel. The rooms are decorated in a perfect, authentic Chinese style. Guys if you want to score major points with the girlfriend or wife, stay in the Wedding Suite. The staff is made up of wonderful, English speaking young ladies working the front desk. They are extremely helpful in suggesting places or helping you to locate places. The price is very reasonable as well. My girlfriend and I gave this place an A++++
“great service”
Great service, the hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English very well. They were able to offer information on tours, getting around, etc. The beds at this hotel are a bit hard, but the bathrooms were very nice and the courtyards were nice and quiet. The hotel is in an alleyway which was not the most convenient for catching cabs, but the walk to the end of the alley was short enough. The street names can be a bit confusing so make sure you have some landmarks picked out to identify the correct street. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel and would stay there again.
“Very nice little courtyard hotel in a hutong”
If you want to stay in a hutong neighborhood, this is a very good choice. In the Dongcheng district, it is only a few blocks from the subway (line 5). The hutong, or alley, feels very real -- narrow, lots of people walking/biking/scootering down the street, people working, small shops, dogs, laundry hanging, etc. The hotel itself is very nice, both the grounds (especially the courtyards) and the room. The staff was friendly (and spoke enough English for this non-Chinese speaking reviewer to get by easily).
“awesome chinese experience”
We came to Shanghai and decided to see Beijing as well. Instead of Four Seasons in Shanghai we chose something cozy and authentic to try. The hotel is a true exhibition of Chinese history that you can touch, try. The service was fantastic. Overall, a very romantic spot for couples or anyone who wants to feel the real China.
