“Not bad”

Not a bad place, not new or recently remodeled. In fact it seems like this place has not received upgrades since it opened. Staff was friendly and helpful, going out of their way at times. They did upgrade us twice. Rooms were spacious but dusty. Location was hard to get to the first time. Do your map research before you go and take the hotels phone number so the taxi driver can call. Once you get their, the hotel has taxi cards which come in handy. Not near a subway station, so we taxied to the nearest station to venture out. Neighborhood is fine. Overall not a bad stay.

Getting around

Taxis in Beijing were very inexpensive. Make sure the cabi runs the meter. Outside tourist hot spots, cabis will speak to you in English, but charge over 10 times the normal rate for a local. The subway system was dirtcheap, 30 U.S. cents per trip. Getting a pre-paid subway card was helpful, but tricky to return before we left, as everyone directed us to one station in downtown to get our deposit back. Before we left our hotel we asked for destination notes in Chineese. These notes and the business/restaurant phone number proved helpful, although some cabbies were reluctant to use their cell phones.
