We booked our reservation through Expedia but when we got there after traveking for over 25+ hours our reservation could not be found. With kids, this was frustrating. We had to upgrade our room because what was described online was not the situation of the room. Breakfast was good. The upgraded room was nice and clean.

Room was dingy, no view, and bed wasn't super comfortable, but property was in a nice location in one of the hutongs. Good lodging for price, just don't expect too much. It's also about a 5-10 minute walk from the roads where a taxi would drop you off.

Average experience. Location is not so good, you have to walk long distance and several streets to get to the hotel and from/to transportation, really nothing interesting to do nearby. Staff don't speak English. Cleanliness is average. I paid for room with balcony/terrace, but they gave me a common room in the ground floor.

It is also adjacent to several bus stops. Turn left from the side door of the hotel and walk for two or three minutes to Gulou East Street. It is convenient for taxis and buses . Unpleasant surprise upon checkig in
Unpleasant surprise: No window in the room. I know that in China hotel rooms can be without a window, so I was looking for this clause. And on the room description there was nothing about that. However when I came they told me that it is in description (it was not) and they dont have anything else available for me, however I could pay more and have luxury room. For $80 ($68 + $11 tax) windowless room is certainly not a bargain. Also there are a lot of other inconsistencies on hotel page: e.g. breakfast for 30 RMB ( it is 48 actually), 300RMB deposit ( it is 200 actually)

The place is a traditional China hotel. Loved the location. A little small, but great bathroom and service. They received tourist which not all the hotels in China do, and they received credit card payment for deposit. The location was far from the Forbidden city and the Temple of Heaven but almost everything is far far away in Beijing.

Terrible service,not responsive,messed up schedule
My husband was very uncomfortable with the limited toilet paper and the trouble we have to go through to ask for more bathroom accessories. I booked a visit with this hotel for Great Wall the day we checked in. They confirmed the time and contact for the trip. But when we showed up at the hotel lobby the day for the trip the hotel staff said they couldn't find our information, later they said they trip schedule was messed up by the guide. We wasted whole day trying to figure this out while the hotel didn't provide any help.

Nice quite hotel. It is a little hard to find but the best recommendation is to map it out beforehand use cached map since once you are in China most common used Google maps dont work. It is down a small street ( alley) but within 200 meters of main road. From the airport I took public transport( metro + bus) and got there fine. Bus #107 or #612 will drop you within 200 meters of Hotel. Biggest drawback was room temperature was uncontrolable. I was there in winter and lack of window prevented me from getting fresh air, although I am not sure if the outside air was any better.

Very charming and nice hotel
I really like the charm and the traditional appeal of this hotel. The room was clean, water pressure was good. Everything I needed was there. The staff spoke good English, so I had no problem communicating with them. The location is great. Walking distance to subway, restaurants, bars, coffee, and Gulou is a great area for entertainment. Highly recommend this hotel.

Affordable hotel in a great neighborhood
I was in Beijing for a 24 hour layover, I went on hotels.com and found this hotel at a very reasonable price around US$55, it was only about a 100 Chinese yuan ride from the airport which is more less $15 , Because it sits on the north eastern side of the city it's an easy ride from the airport. It was a little hard to find but a good hotel for the price

It was a good stay overall. The location was great(right in the center of Hutong area only a few subway stops away from Tianmen and forbidden city), the staffs were nice. The room was relatively clean and spacious for the money. The downside was that there was a cigarette butt on the floor when I walked in to the bathroom(hence it made me question whether the room was thoroughly cleaned..). The bathroom smelled a bit like smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. The walls were very thin that I was able to hear every single conversation that my neighbor was having.

Great hotel with a prime location for seeing the hutongs and alleyways to the north of the Forbidden Palace. Main thing that could be improved was if they kept the breakfast buffet stocked up.

Front desk of the hotel was not friendly and unhelpful. Room has a moldy smell. Toilet door lock was faulty and the shower room door design sucks. The location is not bad though.

Nice location and effort to provide upscale experience. Little things detracted, however. No soap dish in the shower, for example. or one hair in a room with three beds, and a TV facing the center of the room and not viewable from either bed. Overpriced.

I thought the hotel could have been so cool, if I got a clean and warm room. The traditional lay out was very cool, neighborhood is amazing, however it was 20 below Beijing is supposed to.l be known for its heated rooms. My room was freezing!

I arrived in Beijing around 9 pm took a taxi and the hotel was very hard to find. I gave the taxi the telephone number of the hotel. He then dropped me off at small street and pointed for me go into this dark narrow street. I was very anxious as I kept walking in the freezing cold around 10.30 pm not knowing where I was going. I saw a young woman and showed her The hotel and number, she then rang the hotel.i offered to pay her to take me to the hotel. Problem was also that the street was narrow and no car can go there. It was a nightmare.

Ww were allocated room 103 which was beside the restaurant. It was thus, very noisy as i believe tje room is not sound proof. The beddings are not comfortable. When we requested for calling for taxis at the hotel reception, they told us they dont do such service. But, the surroundings is great. Food ,shopping and small cafes compensated for everything.

Great location
Just a minute off of a major shopping street this hotel is a great location, although a bit difficult to spot from the street, you have to go down an alley, then a couple of corridors before getting to the hotel. Although the hotel was a large hotel the entry and rooms had a traditional feel. The staff arranged for our transportation back to the airport, just had to meet them at the car at the end of the street. Updated bathroom with lots of hot water, however no dressers or drawers to put your clothes in. There were lots of people in the hotel, and to no fault of the hotel kids running and screaming in the halls for two nights in a row. If you're looking for a combination of a traditional feel, and larger hotel this is it.

Stayed for 9 nights, the room we booked through Expedia for four people did not exist so we had to purchase a second room, sheets were never changed, room leaked when it rained. rooms smelt of damp, damp stains on both of our rooms ceilings. The area around the hotel is grubby but if you like the old rundown Beijing this will suit you.

When we arrived we were upgraded since they had no standards rooms left. However, the shower head was broken and a horrible and unbearable smell came out of the pipes every time we showered. The smell lasted overnight and into the next morning, so after 3 days (we asked for them to check it out and no one bothered) we requested a room change. The new bedroom had no windows but at least there was no smell. Besides that, the rooms were not properly cleaned. We found spiderwebs and sticky bathroom floors and even a cockroach. The only good thing about the rooms were the sizes and the fact that they bring in bottled water to you everyday. The breakfast buffet (surcharge of 30RMB per person) was mostly chinese. The only western food was eggs and toast. The location however was very convenient. The hotel is located near a very busy and popular hutong area. There are infinite choices of restaurants and shops around, and it was less than 10 minutes away from the subway station (walking).

Great hotel to explore Beijing as the closest tube station is a 2 minute walk. Friendly staff always ready to help their guests. Located in the Hutong area where you can find good restaurants and bars. I would certainly recommend it to my friends.

Stayed in traditional view hotel for 4 nights. The location of the hotel was great! Metro stations are a bit far away but the neighbourhood is great with small streets and shops. Our room was next to the front desk so it was a bit noisy but with earplugs sleep was okay. What was the worst in this hotel that the breakfest is bad but i guess worth the money(30rmb). The cleaning stuff stole pants and a shirt from my girlfriend. Also stuff were rude and couldn't help in this case. All in all it was traditional room(no windows) location is great but if you are interested keeping your stuff with you i would choose some other hotel in beijing. Pay a visit to the nanluoguxiang lu.

Authentic hotel in strategic location
We were staying for 6 days. We arrived at 2am and were told that the room that I booked has all been fully utilise so they gave me a free upgrade to their best room which really spacious and comfy for just 1 day and the next day shift back to the room that I had already booked. Mattress was hard at first place but once you get used to it, will be fine. Soundproof was bad. We booked a tour with the hotel to Badaling Great Wall but due to traffic congestion was cancelled and diverted to Mutianyu Great Wall. Also visited Ming Tombs and some shopping places. My suggestion will be booked a private tour without shopping will have more time to stay at Great Wall. Strategic location where it is just located beside the famous Nan Luo Gu Xiang which have varieties of delicacy and souvenir shops. It is also located to a few tourist attraction within distance of walking. Subway is just a walking distance of 10mins depends on the crowd. Overall authentic hotel in a strategic location. Value for money.

Building work going on in lobby No restaurant or bar as closed? Did breakfast which was absolutely foul and would not appeal to Europeans Grubby room, wallpaper hanging off, damaged light shades, gouged floors Info on the hotel and surrounding areas things to do etc. all info out of date Safe didn't work No tea/coffee in room No wardrobe or cupboards for storing clothes - had to leave them in the suitcase No Sky TV - nothing in English Booked an early morning call which never came The staff spoke very little or no English Don't book tours through the hotel very disappointing and a total rip-off Don't stay on a weekend as full of domestic tourists with family's and very noisy Very hard to locate - do not rely on taxi drivers to know where this hotel is!!!! Witnessed an American family and an English couple having trouble booking out and it wasn't a pretty site with the unprofessional staff refusing to refund deposits as the guests had apparently damaged their rooms. It was distressing for all to witness especially as the staff seemed to be using delaying tactics as the guests were short of time for their flights and were obviously hoping they would just walk away without refunds.

Taxi's dont like it..
Hotel is exactly as named... a traditional feel, and a great location. The only problem is that taxis and cars cannot access it during most parts of the day or night, as its is in a restricted vehicular access area. You need to walk 280m to the main road, bags in hand, or 180m through the lanes, to get to an area that has a possible taxi available. Taxis know they cant access at night, so refuse to go there at night, even if you only want to be dropped off at the road 180m away, if you cant speak the language, they wont understand you, and refuse to take you. Thank god for the rickshaw drivers. Other than that, quite comfortable, but paper thin walls mean that you do wake up whenever someone walks past.

Traditional looking hotel with some issues
This is a traditional looking hotel located in a sketchy back alleyway in the center of Beijing. The room was nice- two adjoined rooms with a king size bed and smaller bed + two bathrooms and heated floors and tv. I had several issues with this hotel: #1- Location- the hotel is located down a small alleyway, which cars cannot drive thru- this made it difficult to locate and for pickup/drop off by taxi. #2- Wifi issues- the wifi kept dropping out and had trouble connecting. #3- Construction- the hotel appeared to still be under construction with workers hammering and making noise outside of the lobby (although it was quiet in the rooms). ----- Here were some positives: - the hotel room felt very traditional and was nice and warm, which was a plus during winter. - hotel staff was very friendly and had an English speaking staff member available 24/7. They even booked a private car service to take us to he Great Wall and the airport. -Cost- very affordable. ---- After spending 2 nights there, I became more familiar with the area and was able to find my way around. It was a nice hotel; however, not sure if I would stay here again.
