1 of the most impressive hotels I stayed in China
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: The size and quality of the room and all the staff members I encountered. The overall feeling after a tiring day that you are returning to relaxation!
Cons: The location might be a bit far for some
Location: Was near a business district so not right next to the central areas. However Taxis are still fairly cheap to get anywhere and subway accessible too
From turning up at the lobby on first arrival I was impressed as the hotel looked exceptionally clean and had an impressive sized lobby. At check in the front desk communicated to me in Chinese and English. A lot of staff could speak some English Entering the room I was stunned by the big room size and cleanliness especially for the very reasonable room rate that was paid. The room really felt quality and far superior then 4 star hotels I have stayed in other parts of the world. The maids did a really good job of keeping the room clean and even folded my clothes into neat piles for me! They would do a complimentary shoe shine if requested I used a couple of restaurants, the coffee shop and bar. These might have been a bit expensive for Beijing standards but they were all exceptional, especially the staff! At breakfast the staff had no problem making me a custom order and the coffee shop girls were always happy to serve with a smile. The staff were definitely one of the best things about this hotel! Only slight negative is the location from central tourist areas but it was still cheap and close enough to get to them. The concierges were helpful in flagging down taxis and speaking to the driver for you and would tell you a approximate cost to your destination so you wouldn't overpay. They also mentioned public transport routes available and there was a bus stop outside which could take you to the subway. Definitely recommend this hotel as a place to stay while in Beijing

Holiday Inn Central Plaza

The experience was similar to a 4 star rating in a hotel in the United States. The facility was attractive and well maintained. The service staff were very friendly. I would put the quality of this hotel above other hotels in which I stayed in China.

a little out of the way, but fantastic service!

Really enjoyed our stay here, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. particularly David the Concierge. It was a little out of the way, which made it hard at rush hour to get a cab back, but other than that no complaints at all 1

March Break in Beijing
Posted Jan 23, 2010
We took our sons (ages 10 and 8) to Beijing for March school break. The hotel was as expected from reading reviews. The basics were sound: large enough room for 4 to be comfortable, clean and kept clean, beds comfortable and all basic facilities working well. The hotel is less than new, but well-maintained. In spite of the great sights to see, the boys very much and very often enjoyed the pool (an indoor pool is a "must" for them). We were in Beijing 3 years earlier and knew our way around, but still received useful advice (e.g. when it was better to take the subway than a taxi because of heavy traffic). Concierge staff were all helpful. They arranged taxi's for longer trips (e.g. Great Wall, Ming Tombs) that were of good quality and had pleasant drivers. Location is the only downside. Trips back to the hotel often required use of our cell phone to call the hotel and get directions. The map on the card provided by the hotel covers a very small local area and isn't very useful when you get out a bit further. The plus side of the location is the typical mid-city neighbourhood surrounding the hotel. We enjoyed getting out and wandering around to see people going about ordinary day-to-day life. We went to several restaurants we stumbled upon, bought fresh fruit and other snacks from small shops and larger supermarkets, and even did some shopping for basic clothing (shoes, warmer jackets, etc.). It was a very safe area and and we were never bothered by anyone.
