“Surprisingly good”
The great: the Internet is WAY faster than at the Ramada we stayed in in Shanghai, and is fast enough to register on mobile devices. Yay!
- Breakfast is good, varied, frequently refreshed, and satisfying. Cereal, toast, congee, eggs, sausages, vegetables, fresh fruit, juice, milk, coffee, soy milk, fried rice, etc.
- The front desk people are nice, speak good enough English, and are helpful. Nice surprises were the free crib, and a collection of power adapters to borrow.
- corner store just out the door, to get cold water, lots of alcoholic choices, ramen noodles, ice cream, and the like
- in room: safe, tea kettle and mugs, comfy chair, big TV with HBO, nice desk
The mediocre: the location isn't great. The nearest subway is a 20 minute walk away, though a taxi will only cost about $2. The area isn't too bustling, and the only tourist destination within walking distance is the Temple of Heaven; for everything else it's a trek. But it's doable.
- the housekeeping service is more tidying than cleaning. You get fresh towels, but not fresh sheets.
- like at our other hotel in China, you insert the room key into a slot to make the electricity connect. Great for the environment, but it'd be nice to be able to leave a phone charging or the AC on.
Tips: print out the Chinese directions from the hotel website for the first time you take a taxi to the hotel from the subway, thereafter bring a hotel business card with you.
It's a quite good hotel.
