“HOME not a hotel”

I stayed very comfortably at this place. It's really very neat, characteristic, and clean. Breakfast served on time after a good night sleep. It leaves you an unique impression but not an impression of just another hotel. The price was very reasonalble, and the hospitality of each and every staff is unmatched. It's difficult to select the best, but Ceccilia and Vivian, those two lovely amiable girls took good care of us as if we were families. That was a BBE: Better than Best-Effort service. We'll definitely come back for further stay. All the best.

Rooms are basic but what else do you need a room for other than sleeping? Shower in bathroom was a bit of a nightmare as it wasn't seperate from the rest of the bathroom so made the floor really wet. Also, there is a timer on the hot water so you can forget having a nice long hot shower especially if you are sharing with other people. But the room was always made up and fresh towels put out. Hotel is in a fantastic location. Personally I loved the old hutong area as it is very traditional. Close to the bell and drum towers, near houhai lake and there are plenty of restaurants + small shops around the area. The subway for line 2 is at the end of the street which makes getting around very convieniant. Breakfast was basic but complementary so dont knock it people. You get what you pay for. I personally was very pleased with it. The staff were absolutely fantastic. I chose to stay here purely because the staff had such a great review for being friendly + helpful. They were exactly that and much more. They made our stay so enjoyable + were very welcoming, particuclarly the two female receptionists (mengting and I forgot how to spell the other girl's name - sorry!) and xiao kong (the boy who works in the bar). They also helped make my brother's 21st birthday special. Any problems we had (e.g shower not working properly) they sorted out asap. Made some new friends in this hotel and I miss them so much. Agree with a previous review that this place feels like a home not a hotel.

“Just what we wanted!”

we also stayed in a 5 star hotel near the temple of heaven and both of us preferred this inn. we wanted to stay in a more residential area and this hutong was great. the alley was pretty clean and very quiet. no one seems to get up before 8am that we could tell and shops don't open before 10am, so it was quiet in the mornings. i had copied the hotel name and address in chinese before leaving so that i could give it to our taxi driver. he made a phone call and had no problem finding it. the free breakfast buffet was very good with both western and chinese selections. every day also included a ticket for a free beer! we would definitely stay here again :)

“Beijing Hutong Inn - good location”

this is a very simple but comfortable hotel... rooms are clean and they change towels daily... the toilet supplies are adequate and the staff are friendly and prompt... they speak good english too. breakfast buffet spread is simple - breads and cookies, eggs and ham coffee and tea, jam and butter, greens and fruits... not bad.... the bathroom is a little bit too small though and not having an ensuite shower stall makes the whole bathroom wet when one takes a shower... but it should be fine if you are traveling on a budget. free wifi in-room is an absolute PLUS! but we also got free bottle of beer per person for the entire stay... really not too bad, isnt it? the location is walking distance to the back lakes and a shop and restaurant strip in 5 mins by foot! subway station is also a short walk...

Very impressed with hotel, great location, great buffet breakfast and great value!!! Don't be intimiated by surrounding areas, a lot of construction is going on. A short walk to Bell/Drum tower and lake with wonderful cafes and shops. We absolutely loved this area, a nice reprieve from a bustling Beijing!!!

Hotel is located in a place where construction is undergoing. Therefore it is noisy and walkways around it are pretty dirty. Rooms are very smallIn simple terms you get what you pay for. Nevertheless, the hotel personnel are truly outstanding and strive to make your stay as pleasent as possible. They really are very good when it comes to good service.

“Typical Chinese hotel”

This hotel's located in an interesting place with some character. It took a bit of searching to find the place, which is fairly close to a subway stop. I have lived in China for two years and was showing Beijing to my visiting family. The staff was polite enough, but the place isn't the greatest, even for that price. We were on the first floor, and we could hear everything through the paper-thin door and walls. It sounded like people were living in the room with us. The most frustrating experience was when I went to check out. The staff kept some of my security deposit because they claimed we had opened a pack of women's underwear. I tried to explain that we never even touched it, and we didn't even know it was there. Apparently the staff's word is taken more seriously than the guest's and they insisted we must pay for it, or they would never give me the rest of the security deposit. It wasn't the best way to end my stay, and I wouldn't stay there again, especially because of their attitude.

“A total disappointment”

They run out of warm water of showers, you can literally sit in the toilet to mind your business and take a shower at the same time, the heater/AC does not work properly, the carpets are nasty, the room smells like letrine the furniture is old with the exception of the computer they and the complementary breakfast is a fraud. The reason why I mention this is because we decided to stay there because of the breakfast. They had old bread and some ham that looked like cat food and if you want eggs guess what they have a pan for you to cook. Just get in line because 100 people will be ahead of you. They always ran out food. Like I said total disappointment.
