“A jewel near Tienanmen Square!”

We had a great stay! Reasonably priced, located within 15 min. walk of Tienanmen, great service. Only disadvantage is no wifi in room, only cable internet. Wifi in lobby.

“Last Minute Find”

A great find at the last minute when we found ourselves in Beijing and not able to check into our already confirmed Hotel until a day later. The staff were very helpful (and thankfully honest), we left a large sum of cash (RMB) in the safe when we checked out - we called them approximately 2 hours later when we realised and all money was accounted for and returned and they would not even accept the tip we offered!! As we only stayed one night, I can only provide brief overview of what appeared to be a very nice hotel at a great price. Rooms on the Executive Level were spacious and comfortable, king bed and premium English TV channels. The hotel bar offered a great happy hour(s) and many complimentary bar snacks. There is a separate coffee shop located within the hotel opened till something like 2:00am if you need a fix or a delicious treat - they also serve fresh pastries for breakfast if you don't feel like doing the full buffet. Location of Hotel is only a short taxi ride (but remember the Beijing traffic) to most city locations. Some locals will tell you it's OK to walk (only a couple of blocks) - however the street blocks in Beijing are particularly large so you may be in for a hike. Taxi's are cheap and very honest, they are now all metered and they provide receipt.

“Wedding in China”

Make sure you get the breakfast package it is well worth it. If you don't you will pay much more and the breakfast is great.

“Good hotel, not a lively location”

Stayed in 2 different rooms at the Jianguo Garden, as well as at the Landmark Hotel. The room, bathroom and breakfast at Jianguo Garden were all better than Landmark (the latter also nickel and dimed us with ridiculous charges for all sort of things). The Jianguo also gets hats off for recovering a colleague's glasses from a cabby, emailing her, and getting them to me (as she'd already left the country). All in all very nice, and pretty good conference space. Only complaint is the area -- can walk to Wangfujing, and near a subway, but (like Landmark) not close enough to any interesting areas to walk. Still, clean and worth the price.

“Great, except the coffee...”

Well located in the center of the city, 2km walk from Tian An Men square and Forbidden City. Rooms on the front side are great ; those in the back are also nice, but much smaller. The biggest problem is the breakfast ; first, it's not included and very expensive (more than 20 USD); second, it's suppose to finish at 10h30, but if you are there at 9h30, you notice that no more fresh food is brought in. The worst was the coffee. It was definitely the end of the pot, had overcooked and was undrinkable. We had to insist that they bring in fresh coffee, since there was still one hour left. They preceded that they didn't understand why we were complaining, and finally, we managed to get a fresh cup that they brought in from the coffee bar. Asking for a second cup (after all, we had paid the full astronomical price and thought we deserved at least two cups, almost created a diplomatic incident ! But we insisted and got a second cup.

“Rooms not Air onditioned”

We stayed in the Jianguo Garden Hotel in Beijing for 3 nights in mid April 2008 and found the hotel to be centrally located and ideal for our needs with the exception of the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. Upon arrival the temp. in our room was approx 84 degrees, but upon adjusting the thermostat to cool the room we discovered it wasn't putting out any cool air. We called the front desk and they promptly sent someone up to investigate. When the hotel employee could not get the a/c to work we were moved to another room ( older and not quite as nice, but hey if we were cool we really didn't care that much). This time the thermostat controls were all in Chinese & we had to call for help again -but still no cool air. Long story short, we finally were told that there was a city ordinance stating that the temperature was not hot enough outside to turn on the a/c to the rooms! Since we found this to be the case in almost every hotel we stayed in during our visit to China I'm not sure if the Jianguo Garden Hotel is 100% fully to blame. With that said, we do find fault in that the hotel advertises that the rooms are air conditioned without any disclaimer that this only applies to certain months of the year.

“BE CAREFUL - DO NOT GET DECEIVED BY PICTURES”

DO NOT GET FOOLED BY THE PICTURES. NOT WORTH THE MONEY I PAID FOR. PICTURES SHOW 5-STAR QUALITY BUT OUR ROOMS WERE SIMILAR TO A 1 STAR. VERY OLD FURNISHINGS, BAD BED, NO STANDARD TOILETRIES. NOT CLEAN. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING. NEVER AGAIN WILL I STAY IN THIS HOTEL.
