Nice hotel close to main shopping area and some at

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Pros: Very hot room but good all round hotel
Location: Forbidden City and Tianamen Square reasonably close. Beware of taxi drivers with scam change with 50 yuan notes
Big City, more cars and people than ever seen before and no need to go back. Best at sidetracking to souvenir and hard sell factories I have ever seen and beware of the Chinese medicine Institute. Thought I was going to be hexed forever for not buying $700 of herbal medicine after five minute hard sell.

Prime location!

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Over all satisfaction! The best part of our stay is the location. Centrally located. Lots of options for dining and shopping nearby. Walking distance to many attractions, even the Temple of Heaven is within a 40min walk. We love walking through neighbourhoods instead of cabbing all the time. Also the staff members of the hotel are very nice and pleasant.

Don't judge by outside and lobby

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: It was close to shops . The lobby was nice for drinks and a piano playing at night
Cons: The old tower needs to be updated redectorated . There was no iron in rooms
Location: Location was good close for pickups for tours and shopping
Well the lobby is grand and the newer tower is meant to be great . We got put in the old tower . The room was big but very very old and dated . Wallpaper was peeling off wall furniture was old and the carpet was out of the 80s orange and brown stained . The swimming pool changing rooms had mould in showers and cupboard doors were hanging off hinges . We were very disappointed and would strongly suggest you ask for the new tower. A very busy hotel as close to main shopping area. One night the door key would not work . My husband had to go to counter 3 times in which time I had to sit down on the carpet and wait for half a hour as I was so tired from sight seeing for the day.it just was not good enough. They even suggested were we using the card right. After 2 weeks of hotels in different city's I think we had a idea how to use a card for the door . The old tower is quite a walk to main tower for breakfast etc . We had a queen bed asked for a king .

Beware of stairs

Posted Jul 30, 2014
Pros: The location was great.
Cons: Better advertising about the two differing qualities of rooms and the accessibilty issue.
Location: It was right by the night market and walking distance to The Forbidden City. Lots of shopping, restaurants and small grocery store near by.
We booked the standard room and when we arrived found that it required two elevators and a set of stairs to access it. My husband has a bad knee and stairs are very difficult. The problem is that the advertising for this room did not state that it required climbing stairs. Secondly the rooms in this unrenovated part of the hotel were small and very worn looking...not Novotel quality at all. We were offered an upgrade but we did have to pay a premium to move to another room. They did dicount the upgraded room. The upgraded room was very nice.

Room was nice size, bed was a little too firm for my liking. Didn't notice until later that there was some sort of stain large/long on carpet on husbands side of bed. Previous cleanliness of bathroom was questionable when a tube of lipstick rolled under cabinet and I had to sweep it out and some brown gunk come out with it....it really grossed me out, but I guess you can't get into every deep dark corner. It was very hot in Beijing when we were there, it took awhile for air conditioner to catch up, never really got cold, but OK, comfortable. Breakfast buffet was excellent, staff mostly courteous. Needed a cab one morning and staff outside was rude, told us to go down the street and hale one. We tried for several minutes but couldn't get one, and went back to the guy. His boss (?) told him to get us a cab, which he did. My colleague gave him a tip for doing it ( I told her she was a better women than me) but after that he was friendly and always helped us with cab or whatever--go figure. Overall good experience and I would stay there again.

We ended up only staying one night. The hotel has definitely seen better days and needs refitting. Cleanliness could have been better with room and bathroom not as clean as it could be - dust and grime in bathroom. However it is in the middle of the city within walking distance of tourist sights. They were not able to give us an invoice when we checked out to say that we only stayed one night as we were booked in for two nights.

Excellent location. A bit old.

Posted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: Perfect location. Walking distance from the Forbidden City. Excellent breakfast. Good staff.
Cons: Better furnitures and newer towels in room would be much appreciated.
Location: Near shopping district and Forbidden City. Perfect hotel location for leisure and business travellers.
Very old towels in the room while the towels at the gym were brand new. The room and the bed were extremely comfortable but the furniture and curtains were quite old. Only chinese channels were available on TV which was a bummer. At any Novotel you would expect at least CNN, Euronews, BBC and TV5.
