What a fantastic location. I loved staying in a place amongst the locals. It is fun to get up early and people watch. The room is very basic, but clean. I have found all the beds in China to be hard and the Purple Courtyard was not exception. Heaps of places to eat close by and convenient to many attractions.

Great location, fair hotelPosted Oct 25, 2012 on Hotels.com
The location of this guesthouse, in the hutongs, and near some fun pedestrian shopping areas, is what makes it a good place to stay. I didn't feel like the rooms were as clean or serviced as they could have been. However, the guesthouse owners were helpful and arranged a car and driver for us to visit the Great Wall.

Little to RecommendPosted Oct 1, 2012 on Hotels.com
The room was dingy and depressing. Wallpaper peeling; in need of some paint. The key-card lock didn't work. Proprietor had to let me in with a key every time I returned to the room; wouldn't give me a key. Bathroom very dark as only one of three bulbs was present. Shower head didn't work. Water leaked out of hose; had to use that to shower. There are tables to sit outside but the urine smell was too intense. I'd pass; there are better options for the price in Beijing.
Great Location, Nice peoplePosted Jun 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
Perfect place to be in Beijing. 5min walk to Houhai (great nightlife, restaurants), 2 minute walk to another street lined with specialty shops, restaraunts, bars within the hutong. There are many other "local" shops/ restaraunts just a few minutes away. Short bus/taxi ride to the Forbidden City, Heavenly Palace. Had them take me to Mutianyu part of Great Wall, which they ended up taking me on a short hike around the main gate into a unrenovated area of the wall which was very COOL! We eventually ended up the main area. I would suggest having them pick u up because it is a fairly tough place to find and it will save you time. I used Houhai park as a place of reference when I got lost and had to ask locals for directions.

Purple Courtyard HotelPosted Jun 17, 2012
Pros: Very quiet for how close it is to the main areas of Hu Tong
Cons: none that I can think of
This is a very quaint family run hotel and its in the heart of the Hu Tong area of Beijing... All the staff are very friendly and helpful...They will arrange any trip you may wish to go on... Although the rooms are small they had everything in them you needed... The area dates back to the days of the Forbidden City which just happens to be very close to this hotel... All the streets in the area are narrow and you get the feel of real life around you We liked this hotel so much we went back to stay on our last two nights before leaving China...

Purple Hotel StayPosted Jun 3, 2012
Pros: Atmosphere, cost and location
The location is easy to get to from the airport. Take the metro from the airport to line 2 staton Dongzhmen. Then the 107 bus to the stop nearest Nanlough Xiang and walk down the street until you see the street sign for Sajing Houtong on the right. Walk to the end of the street. 10 minute walk when you get off the bus. Total from time to the hotel 1/2 hour from metro station. Bus cost 2 RMB. 1/2 hour walk to the Forbidden City. The staff have broken english but make every effort to help you with your questions. Lots of Restaurants and shopping on Nanlough Xaing

Nice budget option in BeijingPosted May 24, 2012 on Hotels.com
Very friendly and helpful family staff together with the good location inside of hutong - to see local life, are main points to choose this upgrade hostel. The price is good cost benefit, the comfort and cleanliness are superior an average hostel. Despite be a good location, it is not easy to be found and not convenient with travelers with a lot luggage, in this case they gave us a big hand.
Perfect for getting close to the peoplePosted May 24, 2012 on Hotels.com
I loved loved loved the location of this place. After staying in different places around Beijing I really appreciated Purple Courtyard for it's location and service. It's close to local shopping, there's a fruit/veg market right behind us, and lots of good local eats all around, plus a five story supermarket across the street, where you can find ANYTHING. Really great for any type of shopping, but also for relaxing and getting the local feel. The place was great, clean and friendly. Definetly recommend.
