“Sha Tan-tastic!”

The Sha Tan Hotel was wonderful! It is located on a small, quiet backstreet just north of the Forbidden City (literally 3-5 mins walking). On the same street are local restaurants and small, family run shops. There is also a western restaurant/cafe with free internet access, if the local cuisine doesn't agree with you. The hotel staff were very helpful. Spoke perfect English. They have a nice breakfast buffet too. They had a tour desk, laudry service and free wireless internet in the rooms if you have a laptop. A great hotel, in a great location and was the perfect place to spend a great week!

“It worth for every penny”

The hotel locates at the back street of the Forbidden City. It is a very nice and clean hotel itself for the price we paid. (It is as good as we paid $240/night in downtown Rome 4 years ago.) Every service people working in the hotel we met was very friendly, except the manager. We will stay in that hotel again if we go back to Beijing again.

“This Should Be A 4 or 5 Star Hotels”

This Hotel was one of the Best I have ever stayed in throughout the world. The Staff was always there if and when I needed them never with any language barriers ever as I only speak English. It's also conveniently located to many sights, shops and never had a problem getting a Taxi. The day I left the Front Desk called a Taxi and it was there is less than 5 minutes. This will be the Only Hotel I stay in when I am in Beijing

“Great Location near Forbidden City and Jingshan Gardens.”

My wife and I were first given a nice size room with twin beds. When we asked for a larger single bed, we got moved to a smaller room with a queen size bed. It was so small that we didn't have space to put our two suitcases. We opted for the upgrade to a penthouse suite which had a living room, with a large flat screen tv and a bedroom, with another large flat screen tv and free internet. Well worth it! Not too many services at this hotel, but the hotel around the corner has a great (western) bar, concierge and travel desk. The street outside the hotel has a lot of great little stores & eateries, but two buildings down (turn right) is an alley way with a huge grociery store in the back. This is definetley where you want to stop as soon as you get in to get your provisions, like bottled water and snacks. Alley Cafe on the corner out the door and to the left is a great little breakfast and coffee cafe. BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE for the room. It's expensive in all of China! Tea is cheap. Example, $1.50 breakfast, $4 coffee.

“Would stay again.”

It was a perfectly nice hotel. clean, well located, the staff spoke english well enough. not super friendly, but whatever. don't expect the Ritz and you'll be fine.

“A nice place to return to at night.”

The staff spoke English and were friendly. I was happy that the staff and hotel were environment aware and there was a homey, modern feel to the place. I also ejoyed the quiet on the little side street. The disadvantage is that taxis did not always know where the hotel was was but, in the end, I always made it back and the small size made it feel much less impersonal. Altogether I was extemely pleased and my Chinese colleagues were also impressed by both the price and the whole hotel ethos. Finally, in keeping with the general efficiency of the place, the taxis service ordered by them had an english speaking driver who did not drive like a maniac and who got me in good fashion to the airport on time.

“Why spend 10 hours at the airport when you can spend three nights in Beijing”

Thsi hotel provides you with englishspeaking staff, who always are happy to assist - or translate. In the elvetor yThe room was quite big and had free internet whcih worked fine all the time. The bathroom was cleanand had the necessary equipment. I loved the location, on a back street where the locals lived. The hotel is very close to th eforbidden City and a couple of our very nice parks. On the corner of the road you have Alleys bar which serves cheap breakfast and lunch/dinner to affordable prices. There are buses closeby, but make sure you know where you are heading - in Chinese. Bring a GPS in your hand and walk away, visit the Lama temple not far away - take a taxi back, make sure he/she uses the taxameter - very cheap. As of today it is a standard low rate for short distances.

“Great Value - Great Location”

My wife and I stayed at the Beijing Shatan Hotel for the second time in September 2009, having stayed there in the Summer of 2007. We could not recommend it highly enough in terms of friendly and helpful service and central location. The staff are always willing to help with your enquiries and their English language skills vary from adequate to quite good. The hotel is located just around the corner from Jingshan Park which is a wonderful place to go to witness the local people indulging in various recreational activities, including playing various kinds of games, and singing and dancing and playing musical instruments. Just to the south of Jingshan Park is the Forbidden City, which is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Beijing. The hotel is located in an interesting street where fruit stalls and cooked food is available most of the day. Just along the road from the hotel is a small supermarket where a large range of grocery items are available if required.

“Very Nice Hotel”

Hotel is very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. Good location for buses taxi and of course the Forbidden city. Only downside was eating out in the area was quite difficult and dinner at the hotel seemed to finish very early. All staff very friendly and helpful when enquiring on tours. All in all it was a very pleasent place to stay and we will return.
