Avenida Beira Mar (avenue bordering the sea in Portuguese) is just outside downtown Fortaleza on Brazil's northeastern coast. High-rise hotels and apartment buildings line the broad avenue on one side. On the other, a promenade runs along Meireles Beach. Stop by a beachfront barraca restaurant for a cool drink and snack, or visit the open-air fish market at the end of the avenue.
