“Belize on the Cheap”
The hotel, Bachelor Inn, is for the budget traverler. It's cheap enough so you can spend more money on seeing the country. The rooftop patio is really great though, and offers views of the sea, along with the daily landing of the commuter type shuttle plans to various cayes at a nearby air strip. The manager, Nancy, was very accomodating to our requests. For the time spent just showering and sleeping a few hours a night this place was great. Remember, there is only one chain hotel in the city, the Radisson, and most hotels are owned by locals. This isn't the US so adjust your "use to home" attitudes. The neighborhood was safe, with a police substation two blocks over and a bus stop at the corner of the hotel's street. All of our cab drivers knew its location and we never waited more than 10min for a cab. We met guest from Germany which made our trip that much more fun during the evening hours after our long days. There were two stores on the same street to purchase groceries, beer and other products which came in handy for our rooms had refrigs, microwave and sinks. Keep an open mind. Make do with the surroundings, and remind yourself this isn't home, but an adventure and you'll love this hotel. I'm glad I booked it. It saved me so much money that I stayed overnight on San Pedro.
