Nice staff

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very nice and friendly. The owner even helped me get to the bus stop so I could go visit the pyramids at Lamanai.

Nice room, unhelpful staff

Posted Jul 29, 2014
The room was comfortable, with air conditioning so we slept well. However we found the staff unfriendly, disinterested and unhelpful.

Location: There isn't all that much to do nearby. There is a nice church to see and other than that the hotel in in a fairly run down area.
The staff was very friendly and the food they made was delicious. Gave you a real real for "Belizeian" cuisine. The hotel is a little rough if you are expecting something like the Raddison. But over all the hotel is very comfortable and it gives you a real personal experience that you won't get in the hotels located on the islands. I was very happy to have stayed here.

Diamond in the rough

I decided to try something different and not go with the large chains. I was surprised. I was not disappointed. This little hotel was staffed by the most friendly people. The beds were very very comfortable. The airconditioner was cold and the hot water was hot. Belize city seems to get a bad rap. I have felt more unsafe in major cities of the USA. If you want an economical price and get everything you could need, give this place a chance. I'm glad we did. I am going to return next month

Friendly, helpful staff and owner

Pros: Location was excellent - centrally located to historical district and water front.
The owner and staff members all went out of there way to make our stay comfortable and safe. Truly enjoyed staying here, and if ever in Belize City again, would stay at this lovely hotel. We went to Cay Caulker for the day, returning around 5:30 pm. Janette not only gave us a very late check-out, but allowed us to leave our bags in our room, but, allowed us to shower before departing. Hotel is located in the historical district, and it is an easy walk to the swing bridge and boat taxis to the islands.

Hotel within walking distance to Water Taxi

Posted Apr 5, 2014
We stayed here for one night before heading to Caye Caulker. It was a little dated and the tub was a bit rusty but it was clean. The staff here were excellent and very friendly. The breakfast in the am was tasty and well priced. Would recommend for an overnighter on the way to the Cayes! We easily walked to the water taxi with our backpacks!

Great location

Pros: Older, but clean. Breakfast available and they will serve dinner if requested all at reasonable price.
Location: Close to a fabulous resto, bird's isle. Got to go there.
Close to everything in the city. Owner lives on site and very helpful. She even took us to water taxi in her own car.

Friendly staff

The hotel had some deferred maintenance, but so does the entire town. AC & wifi worked well, shower was marginal. I thought the bed (though a little bouncy) was comfortable. For anyone brave enough, there are many shops within easy walking distance and restaurants if you go farther, but this town is not the place to get lost in, so make sure you know where you are going. The hotel itself has lots of iron bar security and felt very safe. The staff routinely keeps the front door locked even during the day, but they are quick to open it for guest. If you absolutely must come to Belize City, then this is not a bad place to stay.

Welcome to Coningsby Inn

Posted Mar 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
We enjoyed our short stay at the Coningsby. We felt safe although I wouldnt recommend leaving valuables in your room when out, not for any particular reason but just because in certain parts of the world that is not always a good idea. I prefer to keep my passport and cash on me along with any credit cards. I believe they have a safe if you need it. The room was a little run down, needed a paint job and minor repairs but it was clean and had air conditioning. A friendly dog lives in a gated courtyard beside the entrance to the downstairs rooms. Our beds were a little on the creaky and saggy side but I slept well anyway. The staff were very nice and prepared supper for us when we got in late as its not a great idea to walk around the city after dark. We did walk around the city during the day though and felt quite at ease, there are always hustlers about and beggars too but they can be dealt with by either offering some spare change or just keep walking and provide some polite refusal. Next time I am in Belize City I will stay at the Coningsby Inn.
