We have been staying at Grand Colony for years. The reason we keep returning is the convenience of walking down the beach to the dive shop, having a full size kitchen and individual bedrooms for everyone. There are no amenities to speak of. No restaurant, no bar, no spa, the beach chairs have seen better days but so has the beach. The sea grass is nothing Grand Colony can help but it does make the ocean unswimable. This problem is island wide. Back to Grand Colony. The security is 24/7 and I never felt unsafe. The grounds are pretty, gardeners are doing a great job, everything is very tropical and pretty. The employees are always asking if I’d like cushions or umbrellas for the pool or beach. The housekeepers come everyday to ask if you’d like new bath towels, sheets, soap etc. I’d like to see them mop the floor more often. My feet (and socks) are always filthy, clearly the floors aren’t being cleaned. My family and I will keep returning as the pros outweigh the cons at Grand Colony.

Third stay and we will be back
This is our 3rd stay at Grand Colony. We must like it to keep coming back. We love that the dive shop is just a short walk down the beach. The staff is super friendly. The convenience of having a full kitchen ready to use is fantastic, the maid even comes in the clean up the dishes. As far as the sea grass on the beach yes it is annoying but it’s a problem all over the island. They were out there raking it up and taking more of it away every morning. The water was still beautiful and the hotel had installed a barrier to keep some out. See pictures.

Lovely property. Great guest services. Great restaurant and bar at sister property just up the beach. Villa was lovely. Had everything we need to cook breakfast. Short walk to beach. Dive shop was great. Would have loved a hot tub or heated pool. Biggest negative was the construction next door. Goes on 7 days a week. Did not know this when we booked.

The unit we stayed in was beautiful. It was a completely furnished and elegantly decorated villa. The property itself only had a front desk and pool. The on site restaurant, well equipped workout facility, full time bar and pizza kitchen were all located a short walk down the beach at the sister property.

No hot water in shower or tub. Told front desk, they later say all fixed, but it never was fixed during entire stay. Only amenities onsite are room and pool, so have to walk over to their "sister resort" a couple of resorts away for everything else...not fun. Much better resorts in area. Can not recommend this resort.

Beach was full of seaweed, construction going on next door which made staying at the villa during the day not feasible for the time we were there. So much to do in Belize that we weren’t going to stay during the day anyway. Villa was nice although a bit dated in decor. Staff was really great, helpful and made the stay really nice! Good location close to the downtown and a short golf cart ride. Had an amazing time overall!

Excellent location a little away from downtown. Nice beach, great staff. I did not like the fact that office is located across from road. Would have liked to have a small lobby inside the building. Marriott construction next to the property was a nuisance but I guess it has nothing to do with Grand Colony.

I looked the size of the property’s and the beds were amazing quality. Staff really were responsive if we needed something. The only downside was there is a development underway at the neighbouring building and this would happen during w9 to 5 and basically was a construction site. I didn’t use the pool as it was very hard to ignore the sound or look. The beach was also being extended so it was not in use. We were encouraged to use the sister hotel 1 door down which was a beautiful hotel with exceptional service and staff. Beach, bar and restaurant was top. Thank you for a memorable holiday!

There should be a walk way from Grand Colony to the sister resort. Part of the beach was washed away at the construction site next door. Walking along the street took longer. The staff should have explained the use of Bat Colony Resort as an option for activities.

The staff and the pool we liked. We also liked the condo and pool. We didn't like the smell and stuff on the beach and the construction noise. We knew in advance about the seaweed. It does affect your stay. Need to arrange to get out on the water more away from the shore. In hindsight we probably would have used the Banyan Bay property more too. Room was always cleaned very well. Overall we liked it.

The property was beautifully kept and the pool was nice. We were disappointed by the lack of beach area. The pictures are misleading. There is barely any beach at all and what is there is covered with a ton of sea grass which smells like sewage. Many other resorts had a retaining wall that keeps the grass at bay and provides a decent beach. Overall a great place.

The villa was perfect for our group of six. The sea weed problem was off putting, but I get that it's a natural phenomenon, that Grand Colony can't control. I like to see them build a sea wall like their sister resort Banyon Bay has, that would improve things alot.

Wonderful staff and hotel. The experience was not spoiled by the seaweed on the beach. It is great that you can use the facilities at the hotel next door if needed. Pier 366 the restaurant was great as well as the dive facilities.

The condo was very nice but overall I couldn't recommend Belize as a destination. Too dirty; difficult to get around. Local stores have little to offer. We were very disappointed that we couldn't swim in the nearby shore due to a huge amount of sea grass - also very smelly.

Nice property. Nice size 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom room we had. Beds were ok, furnishings were good. Balcony nice over looking pool. Had 2 issues.... We were supposed to have a King and Queen Bed. Checked in, and had a King and 2 twins instead. They were quick to come change and gave us a bottle of wine for the mistake. Next day, we had no hot water. Room had an On-Demand hot water system, that didn't appear to be on. So they called the maintenance guy back from home (doesn't work beyond about 5pm). Breaker had flipped, when he flipped it back on, it literally blew up (the on demand water unit). Sparks and smoke, and the unit blew off 2 of its screws holding it to the wall. A bit frightening, but not even close to anyone being hurt. Anyway, no hot water now for the night, as they needed to get and install a new unit. Got access to another room for showers until fixed next morning. Otherwise, location OK. Bad smell outside from dying weeds out on the beach. No restaurant right at hotel. Have to go over to neighboring hotel for meals.

Thanks for sharing your comments with us and I want to extend a sincere apology for any inconvenience caused due to the water heater. Nevertheless since the issue arose at night time we were skeptical to make any changes at that time so we waited for the morning. Unfortunately for the island, we have have been suffering from the influx of the sea grass but we do have our staff that has been of great help in trying to clear the beach area.

Great place to relax
This place was great. It was right next door to the dock for scuba diving. It's very close to town and within walking distance from a few restaurants. We rented a golf cart to get into town and around the island. It was nice not being too close to all the action at night so you could still get some quiet time. The condo was very nice and the kitchen had essentials for cooking. We felt like we had the whole complex to ourselves while we were there. The staff was friendly. We used the washer and dry, very nice to have. The pool area was nice. We didn't send any time at the beach because the whole island had bad sea grass while we were there, but it was still very relaxing and there is direct beach access.

The room was nice. The hotel should have done a better job of cleaning up the seaweed along the shore. The kitchen faucet was terrible. The water spurted everywhere when you used it. Not good that coffee filters were not provided. The only coffee filters available at the little grocery store we were directed to were almost $40 US for 200 filters, which was ludicrous.

Thanks for sharing your review, we have passed along your complain to the Belize Bureau of Standards who looks after price control. I cant imagine paying $40usd for coffee filters. As for the seagrass issue, we have been working diligently to clear the seagrass however it's as if we are fighting against Mother Nature but our efforts are shown.

Nice Villa but area not so nice
Very nice people and Villa. A little remote from the city, cab was 5us each night to go have dinner in town but the ride from and to the Port was included. We were 5 girls but had to go to the office at least twice to get more than 4 towels. Wi-fi worked perfectly outside but not at all inside the Villa. Finally, we stayed there 6 nights and it was totally impossible to go to the beach and/or do any of the activities (kayak, paddleboard, etc.) because of the ridiculus amount of algae on the beach. Some of the other resorts got it cleaned up (ie.: Ramon’s where we spent our days instead) but ours did not. The smell was also pretty disturbing.

Sorry about the beach area, but we are trying to move as much as we can however it seems like we are fighting against Mother Nature especially since there is a channel from the Reef so we do get the majority of the seagrass pile up and the wind directions doesn't seem to be helping us either but we are hopeful that it will be over soon.
