“Great Beach Location”

Had a great week at Mata Rocks. It is a peaceful, friendly place with wonderful staff. The rooms (11 rooms+6 suites) are smaller in size but carefully maintained. Small fridge in the room and newer excellent A/C. We meet many couples who had come to this specific hotel 4 or more times. Nice pool and nearby beach bar--no real food but great drinks--usually a half dozen or so there each night. Half hour walk into town, but there are lots of good, closer dining opportunities. You can also rent golf carts or use the hotel's complimentary bikes. Dive/snorkel boats will pick you up from the hotel dock. For restaurants, try Victoria House, Wild Mango, Hidden Treasures (but bring bug spray), El Fogon, and Caranba. Waraguma has good cheap lobster burritos and papusas. Robin's chicken (small shack across from the hotel) was outstanding for a quick bite.

“Could have stayed forever...”

Mata Rocks is the perfect resort for relaxation. It is charming and very well maintained, the beds are extraordinarily comfortable and the beach is groomed throughout the day. The Squirrels Nest is the best bar on the beach (we tried them all). Most of all, we fell in love with the staff - they are attentive to your every need and quickly become your Belizian family. We stayed for 10 days and could have stayed forever.

“Awesome”

Mata Rocks is the perfect place to stay in San Pedro. The room was clean. The staff was amazing! Located at the south end of the island in a very quiet location but still within walking distance of everything.

Our first time to Belize and can't wait to come back! We loved Mata Rocks and would definitly look forward to staying here again. It was a perfect balance of comfort, privacy, and impeccable service.

The reviews for this hotel were all spot on. It is small (17 rooms) so even when everyone is sitting around the pool or bar it isn't busy. The ocean view from the rooms is great. They set out breakfast every morning at the beach/poolside bar. The beach/poolside bar "the squirrel's nest" is pretty great. It's a good spot to have a nice cold Belikin beer. You can check out beach cruisers for the day from the front desk and ride around the island. If a quiet, relaxing stay is what you are looking for, this is just the place.

“Peaceful ocean front”

Very nice and quiet hotel close to good restaurants. The place is well kept and everyone has a hand in your service. The view from the rooms is spectacular and very close to the ocean.

Mata Rocks is a quaint beachfront hotel with a 5 star setting where I believe every room has an ocean view. They upgraded us to a suite (S4) overlooking the pool and beautiful beach (I think it was because I noted it was our tenth anniversary when I booked with Expedia). The best part of the trip was seeing my Wife's face when she saw our room and the setting; simply amazing! The staff were helpful and knowleagable, made a bunch of outstanding dining recommendations, and set up all our excursions (Cris ans Shirlynn in particular). We couldn't be happier with our experience, and the hotel was VERY affordable compared to many of the bigger hotels. We met couples who paid double and many were much farther from the beach with inferior views. Again, we were literally steps from the water when we left our room. Recommend Wayagumas (amazing seafood soup) and Pupiseria Salvadorena for outstanding local food. For more upscale food, it is tough to beat Wild Mangos; excellent food on the water! San Pedro is amazing and the people are warm and friendy. We already want to go back!

Mata Rocks is a small hotel with losts of charm. We were in love from the minute we arrived and hated to leave. Can't wait to visit San Pedro again and stay at Mata Rocks.

“what a great experiance”

Our stay at Mata Rocks resort was so much more that we had expected. Although the Resort is a little farther from the "action center" of San Pedro than we had thought, that turned out to be a huge plus. A 30 minute walk up the beach would put you there. All of the staff were so very helpful and friendly, it felt like family almost from the beginning. We discovered snorkeling while there and the staff were very helpful with making all of the arrangments for us. They also provided very good recomendations on the local dining establisments. They provided bikes for us to explore the island and San Pedro at our own pace, which was quite the experiance. And you can't say enough about the Squirrels Nest, Mata Rocks beach Side bar. May we suggest the meat pies for lunch and the Belikin Beers and Rum Punch, awsome! Five days was not enough, we will return, Belieze it!
