Small hotel right on the beach. Walking distance to town but away enough for quiet. Would go again

nice hotel for the pricePosted Nov 26, 2013
Pros: the room was more than adequate and the staff were very friendly and helpful. trust me, we needed lots of extra towels.
Cons: it's an older hotel and could use some upgrading. weather down there require constant maintenance on buildings. our room needed a wall patch behind hb
Location: there are many restaurants and we could snorkel, scuba dive, fish, ride jetski's, sail, and see mayan ruins.
stayed for 10 days of serious rain. we spent a lot of time trying to dry out.

good hotel for the pricePosted Nov 18, 2013
Pros: located right on the beach bar on site free wifi
Cons: breakfast was adequate - could offer more choices - ie. cereal, granola, different breads
Location: located 1/2 hour walk into the town centre swimming snorkelling
this hotel was located on the outskirts of town - definately a golf cart is useful for getting around bar was nice to have on site unfortunately it rained 4 out of our 5 days! but thankfully the hotel had good cable and wifi

It's time to relax maan!Posted Oct 1, 2013
Pros: The staff is awesome. Chriselda, Sherilynn, and Efrain (sp) made our stay relaxing, peaceful, and enjoyable.
Cons: This place is not the Taj Mahal, but I wouldn't change anything about it. It has a great vibe to it.
Location: Mata Rocks Resort is right across the street from the Robin's. He makes the best jerk chicken in the world. Go downtown for some pupusas at Waragumas.
This is a quiet, quaint little resort to relax, but it is only a short walk to everything in San Pedro. The bar, The Squirrel's Nest, is right outside of all the rooms and is definitely the place to hang. You will meet fellow guests, locals and ex-pats as they stop by for a Belikin beer and some ocean breeze. Snorkeling is a must on Ambergris Caye, as is exploring the island on a golf cart. The staff can set up every excursion, and you will be picked up at the dock out front. There is some awesome food on the Caye. Make sure to try some street meat in central park after dark--shrimp and lobster burritos, yum!

Nice, small and close to the beach.Posted Sep 26, 2013
Very nice place, we stayed for our honeymoon for 2 weeks. We stayed in a balcony with a queen bed. It was nice to have a fridge to put some cold drinks in. The AC was cold as well which was nice. One downside is the internet was very spotty because of the way it was configured (I'm a Network Admin). Lots of decent places to eat, overall nothing really mind blowing. Staff was extremely helpful and will literally arrange anything for you.

Can't wait to return!!Posted Aug 25, 2013
Pros: Cleanliness, location, alot of amenities, altogether very beautiful
Cons: Didnt care much for the sea grass but the staff did a good job or clearing that every morning.
Location: Just outside of town so away from the noisiness of town but close even to just walk downtown. Has a dock for you to be picked up right at the hotel.
The hotel was amazing!! The staff was very welcoming & friendly. The room was very clean & appreciated that it had a fridge with it being so hot we could keep cold drinks in the room. Met some awesome people since everyone in the hotel seemed to hang out & chat with each other at the pool & the squirrels nest bar. Every room seem to have a ocean view with place to relax on the pool deck or along the beach! Will def return to Belize & without question stay at Mata Rocks!! Loved it!! Perfect location just walking distance from town. Also love the free bike rental to get where u wanted to go since everything seemed close! Mata Rocks is def a good pick!!

Boutique Hotel with great staff!!Posted Aug 21, 2013
Pros: The staff and rooms were comfortable and welll maintained. The location on the island and the hotel's aesthetic and feel. Other guests were friendly
Cons: Not much.. Maybe better internet connectivity in the rooms.. I could connect to the internet close to the room but not in the room proper..
Location: If you coordinate with the bar staff or front office they will set the trips up for you. It seemed to us, we got the best deal and fun when we did so.
We stayed at Mata Rocks for 20 nights. The staff was awesome! Friendly and quick to respond to anything that we requested. Definitely service with a smile. And Clean, clean, clean! The two gentleman responsible to clean the pool area, beach, and the remainder of the property, were always friendly and took pride in keeping the grounds clean. Well Done!! The house keeping crew equally impressive. The bartenders will serve up great drinks and give great advice and information on the island and will coordinate travel and trips for you.. The service from the staff at Mata Rocks definitely helped make this one of our best family vacations ever... The location of Mata Rocks on the island was very nice.. Right on the beach, but comfortably far enough away from the road and downtown but at the same time not too far to walk, bike, golf cart ride... to get a bite to eat, go to the grocery store, go shopping, and get to an ATM.

Great Rooms and BeachPosted Aug 11, 2013
Pros: I loved the beach area for my daughter.
Cons: friendlier staff and faster Internet
The rooms and beach are fabulous. However, some of the staff were not the friendliest. For example, with respect to the bartenders, it seemed like it was a huge inconvenience to order anything from them. It seemed like they just wanted to stand there on their phones and do nothing all day. Also, there wasn't anyone at the desk when I needed to check out at 6:30am since apparently they don't show up until 7:00am.

A wonderful place to stay in San Pedro.Posted Aug 7, 2013
Cons: It was perfect! We are easy to please...if a room is clean and the staff is nice, there's nothing more we could ask for.
Location: It's a far walk into town, but not bad when you walk along the beach. The pool, chairs & hammocks offered a nice place to relax near and on the beach.
Mata Rocks is a beautiful place to stay...far enough for the city for quiet time, but close enough to walk to all the fun. :) Rooms are clean, air conditioning a must to help relax from the hot weather, and the staff was wonderful. Cherylynn was sweet and very welcoming, the Pink Squirrel drink amazing, and our tour to Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley a wonderful experience. We were so lucky to have come across this gem in San Pedro...would recommend it to anyone!
