Nice resort with beach access far from San Pedro

Posted Jul 18, 2015
We really enjoyed the beach access at the resort. The only complaint we have is the distance back to town (San Pedro). We enjoyed eating dinner at the resort the first night, but went into town the other nights for dinner. The resort was on of the further ones and the water taxi ride was long (~25min) as we had to stop at each one along the way.

Thanks Glen, Yes, it's important that anyone considering a stay at X'tan Ha does their research as we are located quite a ways from San Pedro Town, almost the end of the line for the public water taxi service. That being said, X'tan Ha is a special place to unwind, relax and enjoy and we are glad you did just that. We look forward to hosting you again.

Quiet, romantic getaway

Posted Jul 15, 2015
Pros: We enjoyed everything about this hotel! The bar, the restaurant, pools, and the beautiful ocean water!
Cons: Nothing. It's paradise.
Location: We went on a private "Survivor" tour. Loved every minute, highly recommended!
My husband and I wanted to have a nice, romantic getaway and chose X'Tan Ha based on the reviews. We were very pleased. This resort is paradise! We had no complaints ~ the food was excellent and loved our waitress, Rachel, the staff was very hard-working and eager to please. We spent a bit of time at the bar that overlooked the turquoise water ~ Tua and Tony made it a fun atmosphere and were very attentive to all of our needs. We were able to paddle board, kayak, and snorkel on our own. The resort is very close to one of the most popular snorkeling spots, so we were able to go anytime we wanted. Their two pools were very clean and quiet. Overall, all of our needs were met ~ we wanted rest and relaxation mixed in with a little romance, and X'Tan Ha provided us with just that! We will definitely return!

Best beach IF they cleaned the SEAGRASS PROBLEM

Posted Jul 4, 2015
Pros: Nice beach, more clean then the others in terms of seaweed. The seaweed cleanup effort was still not enough. They should buying a raking machine.
Cons: Quote in Belizean $ on Expedia rather than USD, be clear what currency you are being charged in, Sea weed cleanup, customer service, kitchen
Location: Must take boat / bumpy golf cart to town (which you pay for). Small excursion broker shop on site can arrange most things, better rates in town though
Started out nice but ended up checking out early and switching resorts. The beach is the best part except since Sept 14 Belize has had a serious sea grass problem. The beaches are full of it. You would think these places would have a machine / boat raking the beach but no...at best they have 2-3 guys cleaning about 1/2 to 2/3rd of it daily. You had to pick you ocean entry points to avoid the sea grass. Next, our room was bad. The bad was concave and uncomfortable, they water was salty (when we had it) because the day we arrived the desalinization machine was being worked on (assume they get their water from the sea), and lastly, we didn't have water pressure for more then half of the time we were there, seriously. We then asked for a courtesy comp / or resort credit given all these issues to which they refused. SO rather then a token comp, they lost us for the next 3 days of room and resort fees because we just left. Oh, enamor thing, these guys quote on Expedia and all over in USD, even my email confirmation was in USD. When I got there I realized they charged me in Belizean and thus I incurred a FX fee on my credit card. Had I known this, I would have used a different (no FX fee) credit card. I've NEVER seen a place do this before and I travel a lot. Lastly, the kitchen was ok, and I never saw anyone use the pools. You can stay elsewhere and come to this beach as long as you buy a drink or something at the bar. This would be my recommendation.

Hi Sal, Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review; we are saddened to learn you had a negative experience. It's unfortunate that Sargassum Seaweed has been washing ashore this season however this is by no means proprietary to Belize and has been a challenge for Texas, Florida, much of the Caribbean, Mexico, Belize and Honduras. In addition to manual labor, we have brought in heavy machinery numerous times to great expense as other guests can attest to, but occasionally Mother Nature gets the upper hand. It is important potential guests keep in mind that water is not abundant on the island and the water pressure at a remote island resort will most likely not be as strong as they are accustomed to. Charges made in Belize will indeed be processed in BZD, just as when we travel to the USA our Belize cards are charged in USD. To avoid this, Expedia guests can choose the option to pay at the time of booking rather than upon arrival. We work hard to provide our guests with an amazing experience and are truly sorry we were unable to provide this for you. We will continue to strive to improve our service and offerings and work to improve in the areas you have identified. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

Paradise

Posted Jun 17, 2015
If you are looking for a quiet and secluded resort, this is the place! We felt like the only people in paradise on the property. The oceanfront rooms had hammocks on the balcony. The beach was nice. Staff rakes up all the seaweed through out the day to keep the white sandy beach look. The beds were super comfortable like our tempurpedic at home. There is only one restaurant but the food was excellent. We only ate the local belizean specials every night. The staff is super accommodating and genuinely friendly. Anything you need for tours and excursions will be on site. They make ALL necessary arrangements. We just showed up and didn't do anything but tell them what we want. Our scuba dive was private and one on one-Loved that! If you do cave tubing zip lining or Mayan ruins, highly recommend you fly into belize city and stay there for 3-4 days then take the hopper to ambergris caye for another 3-4days for the water stuff like diving snorkeling blue hole etc. we payed an arm and leg flying back and forth.

Great beachfront resort

Posted Jun 1, 2015
Pros: Beach! The poor maintenance crew worked from sun up to sun down to keep the sea grass from building up.
Cons: Wish they would put bottled water dispensers in the bathroom, as well. We had to keep refilling cups and bottles in the kitchen.
Location: Great location comes with a price. More expensive to get into town, no matter how you do it. Snorkeling right in front of the resort was pretty cool!
Just returned from a 6 night stay. From what we saw of the other resorts, we were very grateful that we booked the X' Tan Ha Resort. My husband, teen son and I stayed in a beachfront room. It was perfect for us. The staff, including the bartenders and maintenance crew was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has great food, but we highly recommend stocking your kitchen with groceries before you get there, as eating all meals at the restaurant can get pricey. The resort is about 7 miles from San Pedro, so going to town to eat or buy groceries is a little inconvenient. To get there, you can rent a golf cart and drive for about 40 minutes, and get different view of the island, or take a water taxi (about 10 minutes); both cost money. My son enjoyed the trampoline, but it could use a bit of TLC. The guys with No Worries are great. They booked a couple of excursions for us that were awesome! We took the kayaks out to Mexico Rocks to snorkel on our own. Very cool! Cons: You can't drink the water at the resort, but they do provide you with bottled water. As far as I know, this is the same at all of the resorts on the island.

We are delighted you and your family enjoyed your stay at X'tan Ha Resort. It is very important for us that potential guest realize we are located outside of San Pedro town and as such some planning such as provisioning your suite can be helpful. We have noted your comments regarding the trampoline and TLC is on the way. As I am sure you can imagine, the salt water can be pretty unforgiving. We appreciate you pointing that out, as we don't have many opportunities to get out there and play on it ourselves. :) Thanks again for your invaluable feedback, we hope to host you again in the future.

Resort could have better landscaping/maintenance and the restaurant has room for improvement. The bar is great! Rooms are big and spacious and clean! Great view from ocean front rooms. You can't get better snorkeling!!!!! I loved it.

A very pleasant facility

Posted Apr 26, 2015
Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: See above
Location: Location is ideal for a quiet, relaxing getaway
We enjoyed our stay and this quiet and pleasant hotel. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was nothing short of excellent. Because it is locate away from the tourist activity of San Pedro, it allowed for a quiet and restful atmosphere. The hotel building and the rooms are decorated in good taste with all comforts immediately available. Our room was kept spotless. The initial meet and greet at the dock in San Pedro was very much appreciated after we had an unforeseen delay in our arrival time. On our departure, every aspect was well coordinated and timely. The only thing that was not up to standard was the water pressure in the shower on the second floor. Because all the other positive aspects this lovely hotel, we would definitely return to it.

We appreciate your candid and thoughtful review of the resort. As you stated, our location outside of the hustle and bustle of San Pedro Town, is ideal to relax. Regrettably, during your relaxation with us, you are simply not going to experience the level of water pressure available in the USA, we apologize for this and should an option become available to improve in this area, you can be sure we will take full advantage of it. Thanks again for your comments and we are happy that you plan to return.

Please note that we do not allow guests to bring their own food and/or beverages into the restaurant or bar. All rooms are equipped with a wine opener. Thanks again for your comments.

Great Trip! Will come back again!

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: Not too big, and not too small. Clean, and nice beach.
Cons: Fresh water for showers (if that is even possible) due to it being an island.
Exactly as expected +PLUS+ more! Had an awesome visit. Hotel was perfect, staff was friendly and helpful, and the beach and water was breath-taking!
